Learning and Curriculum Primary - Stage 3

Term 1 Wrap Up

The first 11 weeks of term have been jam-packed with events and opportunities for students to make many memories. It has been great to see learning taking place inside and outside the classroom and the friendships students have formed as they settle into their new class and school.

We are thrilled that both cohorts enjoyed the opportunity to attend camp to solidify bonds with their new peers in Year 5 and to consolidate the learning experiences in History for our Year 6 Canberra group.

Teachers have been working tirelessly to get to know their class and utilising a wide range of data sources to inform their planning and teaching programs. We hope that you have enjoyed reading the ‘Class Spotlight’ section each week and that this has acted as a catalyst for you to speak to your son about his learning.

We wish all families a safe and happy holiday break, and we remind you that Monday 29 April is a Staff Development Day, therefore, students return to school on Tuesday 30 April in their full Winter uniform. Blazers are to be worn to and from school.

Class Spotlight

Enrichment

During our Gleeson Group lessons, we have been working on Da Vinci Decathlon activities. Some of the challenges have been code breaking, problem solving and locating places on maps in cartography.

In extension writing, we have been learning about figurative language and using it in our own work. We have used hyperboles, alliteration, similes, and idioms – Travis, Derreck, Luca C and Julian

Languages

In Italian, we have learnt how to say numbers and letters, including foreign letters that are not in the traditional alphabet. My favourite saying is ‘Buongiorno Professoressa Capobianco’ – Tyler L

We have been learning how to describe people and how there are different masculine and feminine versions of words. The letter at the end of the word tells you if it is male or female – Khun S

PDHPE

In our PE lessons, we have learnt the ‘Heel and Toe’ dance and in Health we have learnt about keeping our bodies healthy. We did an assignment called Exercise in Disguise where we had to design a poster with words and images to give people ideas of how to be healthy – Jack M and John Paul B
