Wow! There was a sea of green at St. Edward’s last Friday! Thank you for your generous donations. A grand total of $483.05 was raised for Caritas! It is wonderful to witness such generosity for a very worthy cause.
Our last Free Hat Friday is tomorrow, Friday 22nd March. All students are asked to leave their school hat at home and wear another hat of choice and bring a gold coin donation for Caritas. Thank you for your support of this event.
Palm Sunday is the final Sunday of Lent, the beginning of Holy Week, and commemorates the triumphant arrival of Christ in Jerusalem, days before he was crucified. Palm Sunday is known as such because the faithful will often receive palm fronds which they use to participate in the re-enactment of Christ's arrival in Jerusalem. In the Gospels, Jesus entered Jerusalem riding a young donkey, and to the lavish praise of the townspeople who threw clothes, or possibly palms or small branches, in front of him as a sign of homage. This was a customary practice for people of great respect. Palm branches are a widely recognised symbol of peace and victory, hence their preferred use on Palm Sunday. This Friday the Infants Campus will participate in a Palm Sunday Liturgy, with Father Roel presiding.
During Lent we try to think of others, especially those less fortunate. Project Compassion is a wonderful program run by Caritas Australia to raise funds for communities in need. On Ash Wednesday, each student brought home a money box for families to make donations throughout Lent. These will be collected at the end of the term. Each classroom will have a donation box, to encourage students to help those in need.
We are very excited to give the students at St Edward’s Primary School the opportunity to participate in the 2024 NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge. This is a proud tradition at St Edward’s and every student is invited wholeheartedly to participate.
Every student at the Infants Campus will automatically be signed up to the challenge and read books from the challenge as part of their class and library sessions.
