Assistant Principal Report

As we move through Term 2, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the many highlights from the start of the year and acknowledge the incredible contributions of our students, staff, and families.

NAPLAN – Year 7 and Year 9 & PAT Testing – English and Maths

Congratulations to our Year 7 and Year 9 students for completing their NAPLAN assessments. These national tests provide a snapshot on student progress in literacy and numeracy, which helps us track progress and identify areas for support and extension.

Alongside NAPLAN, students across year levels have participated in Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT) in English and Mathematics. PAT data offers insight into individual growth and allow us to track student growth over time and provide a deeper understanding of where each learner is at. Both NAPLAN and PAT results are used by classroom teachers to inform planning, guide differentiation, and provide targeted support.

Open Night 2025

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing student volunteers, dedicated staff, and supportive parent community for making Open Night 2025 a resounding success. The energy and pride on display throughout the evening were truly inspiring. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our vibrant school culture, and the learning programs, student opportunities and experiences on offer at our college.

House Athletics Day and Colour Run

This is the second year of our new house system. Students are assigned one of four houses when they enrol at the College: Aeris, Aqua, Ignis or Terra. Across the year, students and staff participate in a series of events to gain points for their house, such as the Athletics Carnival and House Colour Run.

Students and staff went to Meadowglen International Athletics Stadium for our annual House Athletics Carnival. Dressed in house colours students participated enthusiastically across the day demonstrating our school values of respect, care and resilience either competing or cheering on their house and friends. Terra house was crowned overall winner of the day, with Ignis finishing second, previous winner Aqua finishing third and Aeris finishing fourth.

This year’s House Colour Run brought a splash of fun and colour to our school grounds, and it was a fantastic celebration! The smiles, laughter, and bursts of colour made for a memorable evening. Thank you to all students, families, and staff who participated, volunteered, or contributed behind the scenes— in particular our Year 12 student organisers and leaders, your support made the event truly special.

Multicultural Day

In Term 1 we proudly celebrated Multicultural Day—a highlight of the school calendar. Multicultural Day was a standout celebration of the rich cultural diversity within our school and provides an opportunity to reflect upon the importance of inclusion and respect. It was heartening to see our community come together to celebrate the rich diversity that makes our school so special. The event featured delicious multicultural food, including Mr Kaskas’ much-loved woodfire pizzas, and lively cultural dance performances. It was especially wonderful to see so many of our students and staff proudly embracing and sharing their cultural clothing and heritage.  A sincere thank you to our Multicultural Officer Mona Botros, Hands-on Learning and Wellbeing Team and student leaders for organising such a vibrant and meaningful event. Thank you for helping us create a space where multiculturalism is recognised and valued.

Intervention, Inclusion and Pathways

Epping Secondary College has multi-tiered systems of support to ensure every learner is able to access learning at their point of need. We understand that not every student has the same capabilities, and we are identifying their specific needs and the appropriate supports to ensure they can engage with learning. The new disability inclusion funding ensures that those with the highest levels of need are able to access learning and participate fully in all aspects of school life.

Students who have gaps in their reading skills or maths knowledge are engaged with the Tutor Learning Initiative to catch them up in critical literacy and numeracy skills to ensure they are ready for whatever pathway they aim for in the senior years and beyond.

Epping Secondary College also supports those with high potential to extend their learning through the ACE program, which offers acceleration in English or Maths as well as a range of enrichment experiences both in the school and in the community.

Parent-Teacher Interviews – End of Term 1

Thank you to all the students and families who attended our Parent-Teacher Interviews at the end of Term 1. These meetings are an important part of student learning, these conversations are vital to student success—they help monitor progress, set goals, and build strong, collaborative relationships between school and home.

Your engagement plays a key role in your child’s learning journey, and we deeply value your partnership and thank you for your continued support.
