Principal's Report

Dear Epping Secondary College Students, Parents, Staff and Community members,

I would like to welcome you to our first Newsletter for the year.

The newsletter has not been a regular publication over the past few years, but I am hoping that it can become a regular publication with important information but more importantly a celebration of all the fantastic events, experiences and learning opportunities that have been going on here at Epping Secondary College.

At the end of last term, we had a number of significant school events

  • Open night for prospective Year 7 families was incredibly well attended with over 300 students and family members in attendance. The school staff put on tours, curriculum displays and activities as well as coffee and pizza.

Feedback from parents was of a well organised and engaging open night. A big thank you to all of our student’s who helped to lead the tours or assist with promoting the school you did a great job!

  • Athletics day enjoyed fantastic sunshine along with a really positive attendance and engagement from students in the athletics events. There was huge competition for winners’ medals alongside the rivalry for house points. This was a great event for staff and students to come together in their house colours and enjoy a great day at the Athletics track.
  • Our first ever Colour run on April the 2nd was an amazing night. The concept was created by our Year 12 student leaders and organised with Head of Year 12, Rebecca Munari. It involved approximately 180 students who took part in the Colour run and this was a very enjoyable event as they completed laps of the oval climbing and jumping over obstacles and getting sprayed with coloured paints. Parents and student also enjoyed the food trucks that complemented the evening with pizza, hot chips and ice cream.
  • Multicultural day was on the last day of term and as always this was a fantastic day with a large number of students and staff dressing up in cultural dress or flags of their cultural heritage. Lunchtime had many events with food options, library displays and a fantastic cultural dance performance in front of students and staff.

As we head into Term Two there are going to be many more school events. Coming up this term will be:

  • Year 10 Camp to Philip Island
  • Year 7 Camp to PGL Campaspe Downs
  • Year 9 City Experience to the Melbourne Aquarium and Mapping the City as part of their Science and Maths studies.

Year 12 VCE students enjoyed a great pathways afternoon on Wednesday 7th May with a wide range of universities attending our expo that allowed all of our VCE students to learn about the variety of university courses and the different providers on offer to them. A big thank you to Mr Malcolm and the Year 12 team for organising this event.

I look forward to seeing the many more events and activities that our students and community will be involved in this term.

Kind regards,

Neil Baillie
