Pedestrian Safety
Recently there have been a number of issues arise with road safety near our College which have resulted in near misses. I would like to draw your attention to the following road safety messages to promote the safety and wellbeing of our community.
🚸 Road safety is a shared responsibility for everyone in our community.
🚸 Motorists should always be prepared to stop for people on foot and pedestrians should stop, look, listen and think before crossing the road.
🚸 We encourage parents and carers to discuss safe pedestrian behaviours with their children and model these behaviours when driving in our local community.
To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students during drop off and pick up times at Caroline Chisholm College, students should adhere to the following guidelines:
🚸 Pedestrians should access the College via the pedestrian crossing located in front of the College on the Lakes Drive and or the College driveway.
🚸 When students cross the road they should:
STOP before crossing the road, at least one step back from the kerb. Remove their headphones and avoid mobile phone use.
LOOK continuously both ways for approaching vehicles.
THINK about whether it's a safe place to cross and continue to check for vehicles when crossing.
CROSS IF SAFE:
🚸 Avoid crossing between parked cars, or at the front or back of buses and large vehicles.
🚸 Avoid crossing at the top of a hill or a bend in the road as it's difficult to see approaching traffic and for drivers to see you.
🚸 Remember it takes larger vehicles longer to stop in wet weather.
