100 days of Foundation
Our 100 days of Foundation celebration provided a day full of learning, laughter and joy. Students looked absolutely adorable in their outfits and our Learning Mentors outdid themselves with their costumes!
Book Week
Book Week commences on Monday the 21st of August. The theme for this year is “Read, Grow and Inspire”. We will be having a dress up parade on Thursday, with families welcome to join us at 9.10am on the Turtle Shell.
Bollywood incursion
On Monday we were fortunate to have some wonderful ladies from our community come and perform Indian dances for our F-4 students. It was a wonderful cultural experience and enjoyed by all. Some of our students were surprised and overjoyed to see their Mum’s perform ( a very well kept secret!).
Year 3/4 Melbourne Excursion
On Wednesday August 23, the Year 3/4 students and staff are having an adventure to Melbourne. This is part of their Inquiry (ITIME) focus. Students will be visiting LUME where they will explore Indigenous cultural connection through artwork. Connection is the most expansive tapestry of First Peoples' art ever assembled and Polly Woodside, a tall sailing ship, where they will join the crew, have a tour of the ship and discover what life was like on a tall ship sailing the seven seas.
Athletics Day
On Tuesday the 15th of August we had our St Anne’s Athletics Day Carnival where our students dressed in their house colours and enjoyed a day full of fun and sports activities. Well done to all students on high levels of participation. Thank you to all families who were able to attend and to our wonderful staff at St Anne’s for making the day a success for our students.
Water Week
“Every drop counts”. This week students have created a door hanger based on saving water. Please come and have a look at the display in the 1/2 learning space. This display will be up for a few weeks and the art work created by our students is magnificent.
Assembly
Our assembly this week was held in the 1/2 learning space and was led by Andrea’s Pastoral Group. They did a wonderful job leading the assembly. There were songs, dances and much more! Thank you to all our families who were able to attend. Our next assembly will be in Week 9 of this term. After some reflection, we have decided to permanently relocate our assemblies to the 1/2 learning space. This space provides a much better view of the screen for students and families and ensures that we have an uninterrupted assembly space.
Beaut Blokes BBQ and Ball Games
Father’s Day is fast approaching; this year we are excited to bring back our Beaut Blokes BBQ and Ball Games extravaganza. We welcome all Father figures to St Anne’s on Wednesday the 30th of August at 5.30pm - 7pm. You can expect a yummy BBQ, a twilight fire, and lots of fun games to play with your children. See you there!
Fire Carrier Ceremony
Rebecca Bolger’s year 1/2 SOW class sang ‘Inanay’ in Yorta Yorta language during our Fire Carrier Commissioning Ceremony in front of the entire school. The Yorta Yorta lullaby, Inanay, is about shooing the goanna away. Tina Thompson, our Indigenous Education Support Worker, their teacher Rebecca Bolger and LSO, Jorgi Alper found great joy working with our young SOW students preparing them for their special role in the Fire Carrier Commissioning Ceremony. The dream of the Fire Carrier program is to promote respect, fairness and inclusion that is culturally appropriate for Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander people. As part of our Fire Carrier Covenant we are committed at St Anne’s College to share traditions and stories. Our SOW year 1/2 class did so in such a joyful and respectful way.
