Benvenuto - Welcome
National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence
Today marks the annual National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. The theme this year is ‘growing connections.’ This theme was chosen as research has found that strong school community connections and social skills help enable positive, help-seeking behaviours. The National Day of Action against bullying and violence is an Australian wide bullying prevention initiative for schools. The focus of this day is to raise awareness and continue the conversation around creating a shared understanding of what bullying is, how we can address it and to support students who may be experiencing bullying. Please see the news highlights in the wellbeing section of the newsletter to see how we celebrated the day.
National Aboriginal Children’s Day
This week we were so blessed to have the incredible wisdom and story-telling of Aunty Hilda who spent time with our School of Wonder students to celebrate National Aboriginal Children’s Day which was on August 4th. This year’s theme was ‘Little Voices, Loud Futures.’
Athletics Sports
On Tuesday we held our annual Athletics Carnival. The weather was certainly kind on the day with a lovely sunny day. It was great to see so many students participating in events and supporting each other in competition and sportsmanship. Majella house took away the win on the day, closely followed by Cooper house. It was really great to see lots of parents in attendance and the whole day had a lovely community feel. A special thank you to all of the staff involved in the preparation and running of the day.
FIRE Carriers ceremony
Monday saw the college gather to see the new FIRE carriers inducted. The FIRE Carrier program aims to promote respect, fairness and inclusion for Aboriginal people. The program promotes enculturation and reconciliation in schools across the Sandhurst Diocese. It was a lovely moving ceremony and we thank Tina Thompson, our Koori Education Worker and Michael Chisholm from Catholic Education Sandhurst for his support in both the preparation of the candidates and involvement in the ceremony.
This week has seen many opportunities for us to celebrate as a community and learn a little more about each other. These are important moments as we continue to build our young community.
