Dear Parents and Friends,
What an amazing night we had on Saturday night! It was so lovely to see our parent community getting together and having so much fun! There was so much chatter and laughter amongst us all which is what these nights are all about - getting together and catching up with each other!
I have to say we have some parents and a particular staff member who showed us some hidden talents - the Karaoke part of the night had us all in stitches!!
We have to congratulate, “The Oldies but the Goodies” who won the night, and we will not disclose at all where the teachers came - lets just say we were 'Under Pressure!'
A huge thank you to all the parents who attended on the night - we sold over 100 tickets! And a massive thank you to our So Fun Team - Krista, Georgia, Kate and Alex, who put in all the hard work behind the scenes to make the night a roaring success.
Both my boys are very happy I won the Woodlands Golf game for 4 in the silent auction.
We raised $2,400.00 which will go towards our new playground! What a great effort.
Last Friday we had a visit from Anna who is the Community Liaison Director of the Parkdale Bendigo Bank. She visited us as they also sponsor our beautiful Georgie dog who comes on a Friday with her owner Lea to listen to our children read. We also have to raise money to sponsor the Story Dogs, which is why we are asking for a gold coin donation at our movie night on Friday night. The children absolutely love reading to Georgie and Nell.
What an amazing community we have - the Book Fair sold $3,000 worth of books which gave us a commission of $959 which allowed us to buy 80 new books for the library.
A very big thank you to Glenn who runs the Book Fair for us each year.
We are off and running with Book Week with students doing activities in the classroom about the Book Week finalists. We finish Book Week with a Book Week Parade TOMORROW Friday morning at 9.00am. We are looking forward to seeing our students dressed up as a character from a book.
Does anyone know what the teachers are dressing up as??
And then we finish Book Week with our Family Movie Night on Friday where we are watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - 6pm Brigid Hall. We are looking forward to another fun night!
It was GREAT to see more people showing up to make our way to Sydney. Don't forget that families are welcome to come and join in and you don't have to run. Walking is also great.
Laps run = 216
Km Run = 10.8km
Total km = 142.9km
We are on the Hume Fwy passing Locksley.
“Brick to the Future” is in production at St Brigid’s!!!
We are so excited to be beginning work on our school production. The play is set back in the 90’s - we all remember the clothes don’t we! And the music - Nirvana, Brittany Spears, Bryan Adams, Aqua, The Spice Girls, Cher just to name a few.
Save the date - Thursday November 2nd is when the night to remember is occurring.
The children are very excited and are having so much fun learning the song and dances and our main characters are learning their lines as well!
A big thank you to Charlotte Tracey who has been our Performing Arts teacher for the last two terms who has done a great job with the children. I think Charlotte is just as excited as the children!
A little shout out to Bella, Thomas, Sarah and Liam who invited me into breakfast at TEAMKIDS on Wednesday to share pancakes with them. I found out that Sarah had lost a tooth, Thomas thinks Brisbane Lions are going to win the Grand Final, Liam has been on lots of holidays and that Bella with Tahlia’s help did an amazing Book Week poster. Thanks Sandra for cooking my breakfast - the pancakes were beautiful!
Our Year 4’s went to Kilbreda for their third visit on Wednesday.
Rafael - This week we worked with dry ice. We had baking soda and 100mls of water in a cup and then we put the baking soda and citric acid together. We measured the temperature with a thermometer and we had to measure it every minute for three minutes. Over the three mintues it kept going down. Mine went from 19 degrees down to 15 degrees.
Tahlia - I loved going to Litstem yesterday. I was amazed at how cold our experiment go. We put dye in water. When we added the baking soda and citric acid to the water it started to bubble and fizz. It was exciting. During our second experiment we added extra baking soda and citric acid to our conicle flasks. This time we put a balloon over the top of the flask and the gas created blew up the balloon.
Can you believe it has been 2 years since we started the transition to the new uniform! That means this is the last year we can wear the old uniform. From the start of the 2024 school year all students are expected to wear our new school uniform. The light blue polos, grey shorts, royal blue bomber jackets, royal blue sport skorts and shorts, royal blue tracksuit pants and royal blue hats have now all been replaced. Students are also required to wear the new sports polos on their sport day.
It is that time of year when we seek feedback from families in relation to your child’s needs for class placement in 2024. This information is one of the many ways which helps us to construct our classes for next year. These are not requests for teachers nor are they seen to be binding once sent. Your feedback combined with staff and student feedback will ensure a fully informed decision making process for 2024 class formation. If you wish to provide feedback, it must be sent via email and sent to me - principal@sbmord.catholic.edu.au by Friday 15 September marked private and confidential.
Please do not do email via your child’s classroom teacher, Tracey or office@ due to the confidential nature of the email.
As we are nearing the end of Term 3, I have to turn to planning for 2024. If you are planning on not returning to St Brigid’s for next year (excluding Year 6 students) can you please let me know in writing at:

Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) are asking parents, staff and students to complete a survey to gather data about where the school is doing well and what the school can do to improve.
On Monday, parents will receive, via email, a code to access the MACSSIS Survey. Please take the time to complete the survey as it is one piece of data we use to forward plan. Our staff will complete the survey on Tuesday at their meeting and the Year 4 - 6 will complete it during the week.
Our Year 3/4 students are attending Mass next Wednesday. Fr Ignatius is looking forward to their visit. Both Fr Andrew and Fr Ignatius have enjoyed us coming up to Mass to celebrate with the parishioners.
We wish our Athletics team the best of luck at the District Athletics next Thursday. Our students always represent St Brigid’s to the best of their ability. They always try their best, encourage each other and are respectful to students, staff and parents from not only our community but to the other schools participating.
Good luck to our team:
Our Fathers Day Stall will be operating on Thursday 31st August. It will be in the space outside the hall where we had the Mothers Day Stall. The stall will be manned by students and teachers. If your child is absent or at the District Athletics we will open the stall on Friday for those children.
We are looking forward to welcoming our Dads/Special person to our Breakfast which will commence at 7.30am in the hall. I'm sure their will be a coffee van of some sort ready for your orders.
Thank you to the So Fun Team and the Year 5/6 parents who are organizing the event.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Wendy
