In this edition of MY FUTURE Careers News, a reminder to Year 12 students that the VTAC University Entry process is well underway. Timely applications for University entry close on Thursday, 28 September 2023. To begin the process, all students applying for tertiary entry will require a USI (Unique Student Identifier) before applying. It can be obtained via this link https://www.usi.gov.au/students

Year 12 students are also reminded to apply for their SEAS (Special Entry Access Scheme) as soon as possible, as all applications received before Friday 15 September will be assessed and applicants will be notified if further evidence is required. Students are also encouraged to apply for Scholarships via the VTAC process.

Following on from similar experiences in previous editions, I would also like to share another reflection on Work Experience that was undertaken by Year 10 student Aymen Syed (10C) over the term break.

I am Aymen Syed, a Year 10 student who enjoys Humanities, especially my accelerated subject of Legal Studies. Over the Term 2 break, I participated in work experience at a law firm called Moray and Agnew. 

I had such a valuable experience during my period at Moray and Agnew; I had the opportunity to meet many new people and get a sense of what a day in the life of a Lawyer looks like. I had the chance to sit in meetings and mediations, review paperwork, archive previous case documents and I also was able to attend court with some of the legal students to hand out subpoenas to Magistrates in the Magistrate Court. 

Collaborating alongside experienced individuals, I gained a deeper understanding of the significance of communicating and interacting with different people accordingly. This was such a great adventure for me especially because I wish to study Law at University and someday wish to maybe become a Lawyer. I definitely recommend work experience to everyone who wishes to gain an insight into a career they are interested in pursuing.
