Leadership Report
A few photos from last week's Open To Learning Afternoon! Thank you to all the families for attending!
We’re over the halfway point of Term 3, and what better way to finish the week than with our Book Week parade! It’s been the talk of the town for weeks, not just among the students but the teachers as well. A big thank you to Kehani for organizing a week full of exciting activities, and to all the students for dressing up and the parents for their help with the intricate costumes. We also welcomed our 2025 Foundation students for their first session—thank you to Katherine and Paula for making it a fantastic experience! To top it all off, we had our first whole school production practice, which is shaping up to be worthy of a Miramax production!
What’s been going on in the classrooms?
Foundation
Catalina and I used a think board to show our understanding of the number 40. Catalina demonstrated her knowledge with bundles of 10, ten frames, and part-part-whole strategies. She also showed me how well she can write her numbers, including the number forty, and then used an iPad to upload her work onto Seesaw. Absolute legend! Sofia followed up by showing me her impressive understanding of the number 36. Colleen has everyone loving Maths!
1/2
I jumped into Christine’s class and worked with Finn on using arrays to solve multiplication problems. He was fantastic, not only explaining how multiplication works (he had to do it in English for me) but also showing different arrays using the same numbers. It was great to be in Christine’s room, with everyone working together on the floor—it was a colourful and lively maths session full of discussion. On my way out, I dropped in to see Kylee, whose class was deeply immersed in a writing session, showcasing their understanding of narrative writing. The class was so focused on their learning that they barely noticed as Kylee quickly showed me the amazing Leadbeater’s Possum she created during Monday’s incursion.
3/4
Kiki and Esme showed me their brainstorm, which they’re writing in Spanish to persuade us why their chosen games are the best. Both students are working on persuasive texts about different games and sports. Esme explained all the advantages of tennis, like how it’s fun, offers great exercise, and is collaborative when playing doubles. She also pointed out how a disadvantage, like tennis being tiring, can be turned into a positive since it’s good for your health. Kiki chose the video game "Among Us" because it offers different roles and strategies, making it the best game ever. She also highlighted that it’s fantastic because you can play it inside or outside on your phone or any other device.
5/6
I walked in on the 5/6s competing in a relay race. The students have been focusing on all things gymnastics learning front and back rolls. The highlight was the race as the students slid along the floor working together. The photos sum it all up!
School Production
All the tickets have been snapped up! A big thank you to Raema and the specialist team for all their hard work in organising the event. We can’t believe there are only two weeks to go! We know some students may be tired on Wednesday and Thursday mornings, so all classes will have a soft start between 9:00–10:00 AM, with official lessons beginning at 10:00 AM. We appreciate everyone’s support and look forward to a fantastic event!
Father’s Day Breakfast
Next Friday, the highly anticipated Values Breakfast Sandwich and Keystones Bun are back! Considered more valuable than a PSA 10 2nd Edition Charizard, we recommend enjoying these culinary masterpieces rather than collecting them. The fabulous Newlands staff will be putting on a Michelin star-worthy show, serving up deliciousness from 8:15 AM. Don’t miss out—come on down and start your day with a breakfast that’s truly worth savouring!
Purple Day
Next Friday, our school will celebrate Wear It Purple Day, a special event dedicated to showing support for LGBTQIA+ youth. This day is all about fostering a sense of belonging, inclusivity, and acceptance for everyone in our community, regardless of their identity. We encourage all students and staff to wear purple as a symbol of solidarity and to participate in activities that promote understanding and respect. Let's come together to create a safe and empowering environment where every student feels valued and celebrated!
Wildlife Garden
Next Friday, we’re excited to celebrate National Plant a Tree Day through Planet Ark by planting the first trees in our new "Wildlife Garden" behind the portables. This special garden will provide a sanctuary for local wildlife and a beautiful space for our school community to enjoy. A huge thank you to Agus for leading this fantastic project and helping us take a step towards a greener, more sustainable future. We are still looking for volunteers to help with the planting next Friday! so if you’re interested in making a difference, please join us! Let’s all get involved and make our school a little greener, one tree at a time! Please see Agus, Claire or Luke for more information.
Have a fantastic weekend!
Thanks,
Luke
