5-8 Community News
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As we wrap up another impactful Bullying No Way Week, I’d like to share some reflections on the valuable lessons our students in Years 5-8 have explored and embraced.
Bullying No Way Week: Standing Up, Speaking Out
Led by our wonderful Student Leaders: Max, Cooper, Sienna, Milla, Emily, Kez, Olivia, Paddy and Asha-Rose, this week, our students participated in a series of activities and discussions centered around the importance of creating a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. We emphasised the role each individual plays in standing up against bullying and the significance of speaking out when they witness or experience any form of unkind behaviour.
Through role-playing scenarios, group discussions, and interactive workshops, our students have gained a deeper understanding of empathy, respect, and the power of positive relationships. They have been encouraged to reflect on their own actions and the impact they have on others, learning that kindness and acceptance are key to fostering a supportive community.
Some activities that the students created and led can be found on these visuals:
We’ve also focused on empowering our students to be allies, offering strategies for how they can help their peers who may be struggling and how to create a culture where bullying is not tolerated. The lessons learned this week will continue to be reinforced throughout the year as we build on these foundational principles. I really want to commend our Year 8 Leaders for putting these together.
SOLE - Managing Distractions: Staying Focused in Our Learning Spaces
In addition to our anti-bullying initiatives, we have also been focusing on another critical aspect of student success: managing distractions in our learning spaces. With the increasing presence of technology and the various demands on students’ attention, it’s more important than ever to cultivate strong habits of focus and self-discipline.
Our sessions have provided students with practical strategies to help them minimise distractions, both internal and external, so they can maximise their learning potential. We’ve discussed the importance of setting clear goals, creating a conducive environment for study, and developing routines that support sustained concentration.
Students have been encouraged to reflect on their own habits and identify areas where they might improve. By being mindful of the factors that distract them, they can take proactive steps to stay on track and make the most of their time in class.
As we move forward, we will continue to reinforce these lessons, helping our students develop the skills they need to succeed both academically and personally.
Reminder: Hats required from Week 7 onwards
As we approach warmer weather, please be reminded that all students will need to bring their hats to school starting from Week 7. This is in line with our SunSmart policy to ensure that students are protected while they are outdoors. Please make sure your child’s hat is clearly labelled with their name to avoid any mix-ups. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep our students safe and sun-smart.
Thank you for your continued support in these important initiatives. Together, we are working to create a positive and focused learning environment for all.
Warm regards,
Corey Carver and Anthony Poppa
