On Monday 5 August the Foundation students celebrated 100 Days of School. What a huge achievement!
We began the day with a tour of the College to show off our costumes. We were surprised with the Year 12’s giving us a guard of honour. Our parents were waiting for us in the Auditorium. In the Auditorium we were presented with a certificate and a box of smarties – because we are 100 days smarter! For the remainder of the day we engaged in various activities all about the number 100. We also had some cupcakes shaped as the number 100. Everybody looked amazing, check out the photos below.
Years 1 and 2
Aussie Aussie Aussie! Oi Oi Oi!
The Year 1/2 students are loving their Inquiry unit learning about the Olympics.
We have been exploring Google Earth to see how far Paris is for our Aussie Athletes to travel to. There has been much excitement as we created our very own athletes out of lemons so we can host the lemon Olympics.
It was a perfect day last Friday for our athletic sports. We were super proud of the effort all students put into having a go at each of the events. Thanks to Miss B and Mr Coombs for all the practice we had in the lead up to the day. Congratulations to everyone for the terrific sportsmanship and behaviour on the day. It was lovely to see so many parents, grandparents and other family members or friends coming along to watch and support our students.
Everyone is working hard on their home reading which is great to see.
It would be wonderful to see some maths practice at home too!
Building Fluency in Addition and Subtraction: A Key to Success for Year 1s and 2s
Developing fluency in adding and subtracting numbers up to 20 is a crucial milestone for students in Years 1 and 2. This foundational skill sets the stage for their future success in mathematics.
Why Fluency Matters
Confidence Building: Mastering basic addition and subtraction helps children feel confident in their math abilities. This confidence encourages a positive attitude towards learning and problem-solving.
Foundation for Advanced Math: Fluency in these basic operations is essential for tackling more complex math concepts. As students progress, they will rely on their ability to quickly and accurately add and subtract numbers.
Everyday Applications: Math is a part of daily life. Whether it’s counting change, measuring ingredients, or sharing equally, being able to add and subtract efficiently helps children navigate everyday tasks with ease.
How to Encourage Fluency at Home
Daily Practice: Regular practice, even for just a few minutes a day, can significantly improve fluency. Use flashcards, apps, or simple worksheets to make practice fun and engaging.
Games and Activities: Incorporate math games that involve addition and subtraction. Board games, card games, and online math games can make learning these skills enjoyable.
Real-Life Math: Involve children in everyday activities that require math. Cooking, shopping, and planning outings can all provide practical opportunities to practice adding and subtracting.
Positive Reinforcement: Celebrate successes and progress, no matter how small. Positive reinforcement helps build confidence and encourages a love for learning.
By focusing on developing fluency in adding and subtracting numbers up to 20, we are giving our Year 1 and 2 students the tools they need to succeed in math and beyond. Let’s work together to support our young learners on this important journey!

Dates to remember:
We are lucky enough to be attending the dress rehearsal of our College Production Frozen JR, on Thursday 22 August. Further information is on Operoo.
Book Week dress up day is on Friday 23 August. We can't wait to see what everyone is dressing up as!
Years 3 and 4
This week, the Year 3/4 students took part in an exciting science incursion to celebrate National Science Week. The day was filled with four engaging rotations: exploring the fascinating properties of Oobleck, playing an interactive Backyard Bingo, launching fuel rockets with James Grabham, and creating our own ecosystems in a jar.
We had so much fun diving into these hands-on activities! The students were all smiles as they experimented, collaborated, and learned in creative ways. It was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to explore the wonders of science while having a blast together.
