7-9 Partnerships
Partnership with St Patrick's Primary School Tongala
Our Years 7-9 students have recently embarked on an exciting partnership with St. Patrick’s School in Tongala, focused on mentoring and building connections with younger students. This initiative aims to foster a sense of community and leadership among our students while providing valuable support to the students at St. Pat’s. Through regular visits and collaborative activities, our students are not only sharing their knowledge and skills but also learning the importance of empathy, patience, and the power of positive role models. This partnership has been enriching for everyone involved, as it allows our students to develop their leadership abilities in a meaningful way. A big credit to Sarsha, Amelia, Em, Jackson, Brodie, Tayte, Blaine, Summah and Tahlae.
Excursion to Melbourne Scienceworks
On Wednesday, the students participated in an early but rewarding excursion to Scienceworks in Williamstown. The day was filled with hands-on learning as they delved into the fascinating world of “States of Matter” and “Electricity.” Through interactive exhibits and engaging demonstrations, the students were able to deepen their understanding of scientific concepts, making the early start well worth it. The experience not only reinforced their classroom learning but also sparked curiosity and excitement about the wonders of science. A big thank you to Mrs Grieve, Elly Westerveld, Mr Carver and Mr Barrett for supporting the event along with Lee for her assistance in organising this excursion.
SOLE Stars
Congratulations to our Week 5 SOLE Stars.
Year 9/10 Food Technology
Year 9/10 Food Technology students have been learning about Good Mood Food. They have learnt the top tips for boosting their mood using food, the connection between our food and brain and the influence of good gut health for good mental health.
This week they prepared Baja Fish Tacos. Fish is an excellent source of lean protein and essential omega 3s, it provides vitamins and minerals important for mental health. Cabbage is a ball of mood-boosting goodness, containing vitamin C, vitamin B9 and is a source of folate and dietary fibre. Pickles are probiotic superfoods, packed full of good bacteria that can support the health of your gastrointestinal microbiome and are good for your gut bacteria.
The classroom cooks rated the Tacos highly and even the non fish eaters enjoyed them.
NAIDOC Week FIRE Carrier excursion
On Friday 19 July a number of our Year 5/6 FIRE Carrier students attended a NAIDOC Week celebration hosted by Aldara Yenara at the Kyabram Community & Learning Centre, celebrating and recognising the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people.
It was a chilly day but the students warmed up a variety of delicious hot food and hot chocolates all round. They also were immersed in art activities, music and received information about our local Fauna Park.
Sustainability Tips
