Year 1/2 News

Hourig, Dilan and Belinda

Literacy

Over the past few weeks in Year 1/2, the students have been working on comprehending text features in non-fiction books. These include glossaries, keys, maps, contents and indexes. They have transferred their understanding from researching and reading about different topics to writing structured information reports.

Mathematics

Students have been exploring multiplication and presenting their understanding in the form of arrays. Students have also spent time interpreting and answering worded problems from the data present in different types of graphs.

Inquiry

Students have used their knowledge of the Water Cycle to explore different scenarios. ‘What if rain no longer existed?’ They also looked into what is water pollution and what are the different causes of this. Students will apply their knowledge to identify ways in which we can prevent water pollution and share this with the students of Clayton North Primary School.

Special Events

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Excursion

The students enjoyed an amazing excursion to see the performance of ‘Peter and the Wolf’ presented by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Hamer Hall. Students were very excited to experience a live theatre setting and spend time in Melbourne. A big thank you to Jenny, our Performing Arts teacher for organising this excursion.

Book Week Celebrations

Students had a great time dressing up as a book character for Book Week. They were very creative and we thank the parents for all their support. The students will have different teachers and their buddies share stories with them throughout the week.

Principal for a Day

Students had a great day coming dressed as a Principal. There were many discussions about what we think a Principal does and what would change if you were the Principal of Clayton North Primary School!
