Getting Dramatic
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jnr
Last Wednesday 21-Friday 23 August saw our Primary School production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jnr hit the stage for four incredible shows. It is hard to believe our Chitty adventure has finally come to an end. What a ride it’s been!
From the moment the first notes of the Overture began, there was an expectant hush in the audience. When the lights came on to reveal a beaten-up Chitty (played by our MPY class members) with Jeremy (K D) and Jemima (Tess D) sitting in the car, pretend racing, the atmosphere was electric. And it just got better from there.
Potts (Josh W) and Truly (Gabi D) followed up with confident entries and the show was in full swing. Each actor was able to connect with their character which drew the audience into their imaginary world, and in the cases of the spies Boris (Harin) and Goran (Noah R) as well as crowd favourites, Baron (Jehu H C) and Baroness (Mia M) their great comedic timing and chemistry onstage was palpable. Let’s not forget Grandpa (Noah A), who woke up and shot an elephant in his pyjamas and then proceeded to have the audience chuckling every time he delivered a line.
The resident villain, Child Catcher (Jesse M and Hudson C), provided the scary moments, and the opportunity for the Toymaker (Jeffrey G) and the hidden children to rise up in solidarity to capture and overthrow the tyrannical regime of Vulgaria. What a joyful, feel-good, triumphant show.
The stage projection backdrops, amazing lighting effects and incredible props – including the wonderful Chitty car - supported our actors in building this world that transported the audience out of their ordinary lives right into the England of 1908.
I can’t begin to express how proud I am of the students and the work they put into learning their lines and attending rehearsals. Being part of a school musical takes commitment and resilience. It is also fun, friendly, and unforgettable. This experience has provided growth opportunities for all involved and an avenue to express their God-given gifts and talents. To Him be the glory and honour always.
This show came together with the love and dedication of many members of staff, and I am so grateful for all the support and work that has gone into presenting such a wonderful, fun, entertaining event.
I can’t wait for the next show in two years. I wonder what it will be... (wink wink).
