CSEN August VCE Rally Day

After previously falling agonisingly short of winning the Championship, the MECS Senior Boys netball team was out for redemption at this year’s CSEN Netball Championship. The team began the day in high spirits, thanks largely to Toby Van der Veen’s pump-up tunes on the bus ride into the State Netball Centre. The boys put in a dominating performance, winning all their matches. While the Grand Final was closely contended early on, the team finished the day with a convincing 12 – 4 win over Belgrave Heights. Putting the scoreboard aside, the real highlight of the day was the camaraderie, sportsmanship, skill and fun that was on display in, what was for most of the boys, their last time playing in a MECS team at an interschool sports day. Well done boys on finishing on such a high!

On Friday 16 August, CSEN had their final Senior School rally day for 2024 and had some interesting inclusions of sports, one of which was Ultimate Frisbee. MECS sent two teams to Ultimate Frisbee hoping to secure the first title for the sport, but the main thing was to have fun playing sport and representing/glorifying God through the simple act of throwing a Frisbee. The students were exceptional throughout the day and really represented the school extremely well in both skill, but also in attitude of being witnesses for God. The teams finished 3rd and 6th for the day. Thanks and congratulations to all the students involved!

Last Friday, a team of our Year 11 and 12 young men, participated in the CSEN Senior School rally day. The team was sent to represent MECS in Football Fives (Soccer).

Lead by coach, Ben-Noah Schneider, the guys were very excited to begin the day. The boys played brilliantly, drawing two games, wining a couple, and losing a couple. The sportsmanship displayed by the players was really encouraging. Each young man played to his strengths and it was a blessing to be able to cheer them on.

Basketball 19 August

The Senior Girls team consisted of girls from Year 10 and 12. They fought hard all day against some very talented and often taller teams. The games were quite physical and close in score, and all girls gave their best effort, working well together throughout the day. Ultimately, we finished second in our pool, and played through the finals to finish in 4th place overall. Thanks to all who came and played, scored and cheered.

The Junior Boys (Years 7/8) had a great day showing a high level of skill that they displayed in the CSEN interschool competition throughout Semester 1. Starting with 3 wins from their first 3 games they were looking good, unfortunately they fell short against the 2 eventual grand finalists in their last 2 group games meaning they missed out on the grand final. They played off for 3rd place and in a tight contest, came out victors and winning the bronze medal!
