Year 5/6 Wendy Orr Author Experience

Last week, local author Wendy Orr came into the 5/6 class to give us a one on one author experience. She spoke about some of her books and gave us the main structure of how a narrative story can be set up. Wendy also brought some of her favourite books that are her best sellers, like - Honey and the Valley of Horses, Nim’s Island and many more.

Wendy showed us the publishing experience of her book, Honey and the Valley of Horses. It was a big stage, with over two years of writing involved and countless editing stages with her editor. It was extremely interesting to our keen writers in 5/6.

She also signed some of our belongings, like the drawings we did of her story, Nim’s Island with Mrs Herbert, and some bookmarks that she gave out.

It was really engaging with lots of students putting their hands up to ask questions. It was a lot of fun learning about some of Wendy Orr’s tips and tricks for writing a good story.

A special thanks to Mrs Towill and Petersens Bookstore in Hastings for organising the session.

We had an action-packed session, and we hope Wendy can come back to Bittern and explore some of our other classes sometime.

District Athletics

On the 29th of August, the Year Three to Six students went to Mornington Recreation Centre to participate in District Athletics.

When we arrived at the athletics track we saw many other students from different schools across the Mornington Peninsula. We settled in under our little hut and had a quick snack before we were sent off to our events.

Around lunch time we stopped for a break and then were straight back on.

Many students were in more than one event, including: Shot Put, Discus, High Jump, Triple Jump, Long Jump, 200 metre races, 800 metre races, 1500 metre races (1.5 kilometre) and then to finish off we had relays.

Throughout the day several people were successful at moving onto the Zone Athletics. These people and their successful events are listed below:

Finally, congratulations to the people who made it to the zone athletics. Everyone tried their best and represented Bittern Primary School with pride.

Swimming Lessons🏊‍♂️

By Amelia and Kooper

Last week Bittern Primary School students had the opportunity to participate in swimming lessons from years Prep to 6.

We went to Pelican Park for 45 minutes each day. I think everyone was tired by the end of the week but I'm sure that they all had fun.

Each day the Prep and 3/4 students would catch the bus at 11:30 to Pelican Park. They would have their swimming lessons and whilst this was happening the 1/2’s and 5/6 students would catch the bus ready for theirs at 12:15. The lessons were conducted in groups that were based on the students' level of swimming experience.

Swimming lessons were a lot of fun and we would love to thank Mr. E for organising them.
