Welcome to Term 3 Week 7 and 8.

We are so happy to watch our students grow in their knowledge and skill of French, and here is what they have done in the past two weeks.

Prep students were orally assessed on their knowledge of French including all topic we’ve learned in Term 3 so far. We introduced the students to pet names in French and provided the children with the opportunity to name, say and write pet names such as un chat (a cat) and une tortue (a turtle).

Grade 1 students were also orally assessed on their knowledge of French. The students then explored French celebrations and Festivals that are held throughout the year such as La Tour De France, May Day, World Music Day and Bastille Day.

Grade 2 students watched and listened to the fairy tale of Le Petit Chaperon Rouge (Little Red-Riding-Hood) in French. They made a choice to draw/colour in a character and wrote a short monologue for the character.

Grade 3 students had a written test assessing all topics they have learned in Term 3. They then learnt how to use imperative verbs to give commands. They can now explain that imperative verbs are known as bossy verbs that tell you what to do, often seen as the start of a sentence to give a command. Students practiced changing statements into imperative verbally and written down.

Grade 4 students had a written test assessing all topics they have learned in Term 3. They then extended their knowledge on French emotions by learning how to add a suffix to an emotion to create a new word.

Grade 5 and 6 students continued to use a wide range of expressions to describe food quantities. They applied their knowledge of quantities and food names by writing, reading and performing French dialogue of a grocery shopping list. Let’s give a round of applause for our confident Grade 5 and 6s who performed their dialogue in front of the class! They also learned some French pronunciation rules including silent consonant at the end of a word and the special “liaison” that makes French language sound so elegant. They had fun practicing saying French liaison.
