Grade 1 News

Dear Grade One families!

As we approach the end of Term 1, we are pleased to share that our students are off to a strong start this school year! Their commitment, enthusiasm, and hard work have been evident across all subjects, and we are excited to see the progress they’ve made.

The following are what students have been working on in the last 3 weeks.

English

During our English lessons this Term, students have focused on revising previously learnt sounds, and have been introduced to new sounds including the following; /oy/ /ar/ /ou/ /are/ /er/.

Each lesson, students practice their formation of letters, write words that include the new sound, write sentences, engage in fluency reading and storytelling.

Core Knowledge / Literature

This Term, students are learning about Fairy Tales and the elements of a story using the Story Champs structure. We explored the important lessons each story entails and made predictions about what will occur throughout a story. Students also practiced retelling key moments in a story to a partner to support writing this into their knowledge books.

Maths

Students have been discovering and exploring 2D and 3D shapes, which are distinguished by vertices, sides, edges and faces. They have been practicing finding shapes in real world objects and justifying their thinking by identifying its features. Students have also been learning about regular and irregular shapes.

Harmony Day

Last Friday, we had the opportunity to celebrate Harmony Day to celebrate differences and learn about cultures from one another. It was a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the rich variety of cultures that make up Wimba Primary School. We would like to thank everyone who was able to attend the assembly and the open morning.
