26/03 - Grade 5/6: Summer Gala Day
On Wednesday of Week 9, our grade 5 and 6 students had the opportunity to participate in the summer inter-school sports gala day. The sports available included Cricket, Tee-Ball, Volleyball and Basketball. The students chose their preferred sport ealier in the term and had the chance to prepare during our Wimba Sport hour throughout the term. The students had some great results including:
- Boys Tee-Ball - 2nd Place (out of four schools)
- Boys Cricket - 2nd Place (out of five schools)
01/04 - Grade 3-6: Athletics Day
Next week, our grade 3 to 6 students will get to travel to the Werribee Athletics Track and participate a range of track and field events including Triple Jump, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot-Put, Discus, 100m Sprint and the 800m run. Students who perform to a high standard at this event could earn the opportunity to represent our school at the Tarneit District Athletics and Cross-Country later in the year.
What are we learning in PE?
Foundation to Grade 2
Students in F-2 have continued to work on their Locomotor Fundamental Movement Skills. These are the skills required to move their body effectively around a space including running, jumping, leaping and hopping. Students have had a chance to practice these skills in isolation and through a range of different minor games. Going into term two students will move on to object control skills including throwing, catching, passing and bouncing.
Grade 3 to 6
Students in 3-6 have continued working on their Athletics skills in preparation for the Athletics Day coming up next week! Students started the term on throwing events including the Shot-Put and Discus and have spent the last few weeks working on jumping events. These include the Long Jump, Triple Jump and High Jump. In term two students will move onto invasion sports, which are any sport that involves scoring goals such as Soccer, Basketball, Netball and AFL.
