Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we approach the end of Term 1, we reflect on the incredible learning journey our students have undertaken. It has been a busy and productive term, with a strong focus on developing English and Mathematics skills across all grade levels. We encourage you to read through our grade-level pages to see the wonderful progress our students have made.

Excursions and Events

Over the past few weeks, our students have enjoyed a variety of excursions and events, including visits to ACMI, NGV, and the Organ Pipes, as well as participation in the Interschool Sport Gala Day. These experiences have provided valuable learning opportunities beyond the classroom, and we extend our sincere appreciation to our dedicated staff for their hard work in organizing these enriching activities.

End-of-Term Arrangements

As a reminder, the last day of Term 1 is Friday, 4th April, with school finishing early at 1:30 PM. Please ensure that appropriate arrangements are made for your child’s pickup. For those requiring additional care, Kelly Club will be operating from the earlier dismissal time to provide assistance.

Looking Ahead to Term 2

School will resume for Term 2 on Tuesday, 22nd April.

We are excited to announce that, due to our growing school community, we will be introducing a third Grade 3 class starting in Term 2. As a result, there will be some minor classroom adjustments to accommodate this expansion. Families affected by these changes will receive further details early next week.

Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in our school community. We wish you a restful and enjoyable break and look forward to another fantastic term ahead.

HARMONY DAY CELEBRATIONS

On Friday the Wimba PS community came together to celebrate Harmony Day, a day dedicated to embracing diversity, inclusion, and belonging. Students and staff filled the school with a vibrant sea of orange and traditional cultural attire, proudly showcasing the many backgrounds that make our community so special.

Harmony Day serves as a reminder that everyone belongs, reinforcing our commitment to respect, kindness, and inclusivity. By embracing diversity, we continue to create an environment where everyone feels valued and supported.

A big thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this celebration such a memorable one. We are incredibly lucky to be part of such an amazing and diverse school community!

NAPLAN

Congratulations to grade 3 and 5 students for their efforts during NAPLAN.  A big appreciation to the grade 3 and 5 teaching teams who were so assured and supportive of the children, along with the education support staff who assisted with the variety of adjustments that were required. A particular appreciation to Assistant Principal, Belinda who managed this highly complex program with fidelity, professionalism and compassion. Students showed impressive resilience and many expressed they enjoyed the variety of assessment challenges that NAPLAN provided. We will of course inform families when NAPLAN results are due.

NAPLAN results are reported against proficiency standards. There is a standard for each assessment area at each year level. Proficiency standards provide clear information on student achievement. They are set at a challenging but reasonable level expected for the student at the time of NAPLAN testing, based mainly on what has been taught in previous years of schooling. Student achievement is shown against 4 levels of proficiency:

  • Exceeding
  • Strong
  • Developing, and
  • Needs Additional Support

A NAPLAN individual student report will be provided by your child’s school later in the year.
