International Day of Mathematics

The International Day of Mathematics (IDM), also know as the Pi day (as it corresponds to the mathematical constant Pi, 3.14) is a worldwide celebration. Each year on March 14 school from around the world are invited to participate in mathematical activities. This year, IDM celebrated the creativity found in mathematical discovery and art.
Saint Helena's Catholic Primary School students participated in a number of mathematical tasks on the day. Year 6 students created Pi skyline art and organised a number of lawn games for all the students to participate in, at lunchtime.
Mrs O'Meara led us in the 100s chart puzzle in the Undercover Area, where we also got to look for geometrical figures hidden in an art piece shared by Mrs Bukara on the screen.
Mrs Rocca organised awesome tessellating art activities, as well as other mathematical tasks in the Library. Mrs Knight on the other hand, engaged us in a fun estimation activity, where we had to find a number of items in a container, by elimination.
Thank you to everyone who celebrated mathematics, art, and creativity, showcasing the harmony of logic and imagination, where numbers dance with colours, equations sculpt beauty, and ideas transcend boundaries to inspire and innovate.
