Year 8 Camp: A Journey of Fun, Resilience, and Teamwork

The Year 8 students embarked on an unforgettable adventure during their camp, filled with excitement, new challenges, and opportunities to grow. The camp offered a variety of activities that encouraged teamwork, resilience, and personal growth, leaving the students with lasting memories and a sense of accomplishment.

Highlighted activities on camp were stand-up paddleboarding, where students tested their balance and skills on the water. In addition to paddleboarding, the students participated in adventure races that challenged their problem-solving abilities and physical endurance. Bush cooking gave everyone a chance to connect with nature and learn a valuable skill of making a fire, while canoeing allowed students to work together to navigate the waters and strengthen their collaboration.

The low ropes course was another thrilling experience, pushing students to step outside their comfort zones and build trust with their peers as they worked together to overcome obstacles. A trip to Ocean Grange was a fun escape, offering students the opportunity to explore, play games and enjoy the beauty of the area.

However, the most impactful part of the camp was their involvement in the Reach Foundation. The students engaged in a workshop where they showed resilience in their self-discovery, understanding and empathy towards themselves and others' views and emotions. They showed an impressive level of participation and reflection throughout the process.

The college is incredibly proud of how the Year 8 students displayed their "go-get-it" attitude, overcoming challenges with a spirit of perseverance and teamwork. Their resilience and determination are a testament to the strength of character that these young people continue to develop. The camp was truly an experience.

Medieval Day

This year's Medieval day was held on Monday 24th March. The students were able to witness some different techniques and styles from members of the East Gippsland Historical Reenactment Society. Then students enjoyed a range of activities including firing a trebuchet, shooting a bow and arrow, dressing up in medieval armour, medieval games and making chain mail. Overall, the students enjoyed the day and were able to experience different activities from the Middle Ages. A big thankyou to Pam de Geus, the Year 9 student helpers and the East Gippsland Historical Reenactment Society.

Congratulations Alexa

The East Gippsland Zone Horse Trials were recently held at the Orbost Pony Club. Congratulations to our Year 8 student Alexa, and her horse Ginger, on 1st Place in the Grade 5 Open!

Alexa has come a long way in her chosen vocation and not only is it exciting for her to win a prestigious event, but it is also good for her focus, concentration and confidence building.

Term 1 has been a fantastic start to the year. We've made wonderful progress, and it's been a pleasure to see. Enjoy the upcoming holidays, and we look forward to seeing you all back refreshed and ready for Term 2.  ~Belinda, Lauren, Josie and Amy
