Our Year 7 Student Leaders are leading a project for the Year 7 cohort - to design a sticker for our bins. This is a great initiative, and we would love as many students to be involved as possible.
We are excited to see what the students come up with over the holiday period.
7D students are a lively lot who are developing the ability to adhere to the school values on a consistent basis. We enjoy having a bit of fun and try to make the classroom environment inclusive.
This term we have been working really hard on our ability to not only respect our own learning, but also the learning of others. We are also working towards having a consistent optimal learning environment with our noise levels.
Throughout the term in Literacy, there has been a sustained focus on us as writers. We have developed many strategies around becoming a better writer in order to better engage the audience through various Literary techniques. This is due to being well resourced and prepared for our writing CAT. The reading that we have completed has focused on literal comprehension and enjoyment of reading through our reading websites: Epic and Read Theory.
During Numeracy we have had a sustained focus on numbers and the four operations. We have tried to develop a deeper understanding of how and why we have certain answers, while developing strategies to formulate responses. There is a focus on showing working out, rather than an answer, as it is important to show how we achieved the end result. Through our work on 99Math, we have focused on our mental strategies and fluency.
DRAMA
7D is working on a Mime unit in Drama at the moment. They have split up into groups and have come up with a story revolving around either “the escape” or “the break-in”. They’ve added lighting and sound to their performances and have shown excellent team-work skills and creativity.
WOODWORK
HUMANITIES
In 7D Humanities we have been learning about Ancient Australia and what primary and secondary sources are. We also have been learning Geography skills and have been lucky enough to have the student teacher Miss May teaching us about water in the world and the water cycle.
PE/HEALTH
In PE we have been participating in our net and wall unit which includes sports like badminton, pickleball and volleyball. We have focussed on skills such as forehand, backhand, serving, digs and sets. Working with a partner in a doubles game or with a team of 6 has been an important skill to learn. Students have done well to follow rules, umpire and play multiple teams in a round robin competition.
In health, students have been developing knowledge and skills about healthy lifestyles. This has included activities to do with nutrients, sleep, physical activity and food choices.
SCIENCE
7D used their learning of the MRS GREN criteria to identify whether items around their Science room are living, non-living or dead. Students had great fun doing this task and built their understanding of what criteria need to be met in order to class something as living, non-living or dead.
Our Year 10 Mentors organised fun sport activities for our Year 7 cohort to finish up a very successful Term 1.
There were activities such as:
Students were able to have a go at the Energy Breakthrough cart and learn how it was made.
Thank you to the Year 10 Mentors who led this work! 😊
7J had the tidiest and cleanest classroom for Term 1.
The students enjoyed zooper doopers to celebrate.
