Lenten reflections
As we approach the final weeks of Lent, we find ourselves in a time of deep reflection and renewal. Lent has been a season of prayer, fasting, and giving, a journey that calls us to look inward, and to turn our hearts more fully toward God. It is a time of sacrifice, but also of grace, as we are invited to grow in faith and prepare for the joy of Easter.
The final days of Lent, particularly when we enter Holy Week, bring us closer to the heart of our faith. Palm Sunday reminds us of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, a moment of celebration that soon gives way to suffering. As we move through to Holy Thursday, we witness Jesus’ act of ultimate humility in the washing of the disciples’ feet, a reminder that true leadership is found in service. Good Friday then calls us to stand at the foot of the Cross, to recognise the depth of Christ’s love, but Easter brings us hope. It reminds us that no matter the struggles we face, no matter the burdens we carry, God is always leading us toward renewal and transformation, if we listen for the voice in our hearts.
Maybe over the final day of lent, you might pause and ask: How has this season changed me? Have I grown in compassion, in faith, in my willingness to love others?
Raising Awareness and Funds for Caritas Project Compassion in the Senior School
Be Seekers of Truth and Doers of Justice
Senior Students have stepped up to make a difference, participating in the Walk for Water campaign and a purple-themed fundraising day to support Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion in Week 10. These initiatives are aimed to raise awareness of global water insecurity and provide much-needed funds for Caritas to help vulnerable communities access to clean water, sanitation, and essential resources.
As part of their Lenten commitment to social justice, students walked a designated route around the school, walking over 12km, symbolising the long journeys that millions of young women undertake daily to collect water. The students carried buckets full of sand which reflected the physical burden faced by young people in developing nations.
In addition to the Walk for Water this week, students and staff dressed in purple, the liturgical colour of Lent, as a sign of solidarity with those experiencing hardship.
The Peace and Justice Group and Justice reps also set up stalls selling items that represent the mission of Caritas Australia, including handmade crafts and baked goods. The funds raised will go directly to Caritas projects, helping communities across the world gain access to sustainable water sources, education, and healthcare.
Through their participation in these events, students deepen their understanding of global inequalities and their role as compassionate, faith-filled leaders of the future.
This initiative is just one example of how the students live out their commitment to Catholic Social Teaching, embodying values of dignity, solidarity, and care for our common home.
Service Learning in the Senior School
Service learning develops a deep sense of empathy, gratitude, and connection between generations. When our students engaged with residents at the aged care home, they not only offered companionship but also received invaluable wisdom and perspective in return. The simple acts of listening, sharing stories, and offering a warm presence bridged the gap between youth and old age, reminding us all of the beauty of human connection. Through these interactions, our students grew in compassion and understanding, realising that true leadership begins with humility and a willingness to serve.
Please read student reflections that encompass what it is all about:
My experience going to the aged care facility has been incredibly memorable and engaging. Interacting with the elderly, listening to their experiences, and watching them smile, laugh, and dance is always precious. The wisdom they share through their life advice is invaluable, offering perspectives that are both heartwarming and inspiring. It's very touching to watch the happiness or even tears in their eyes after we dance, sing, or play a piano piece. Those moments of pure emotion, whether it’s nostalgia, happiness, or deep appreciation, make every performance feel truly special, and I feel extremely privileged to witness them all.
Melody Year 12
Every visit to the Aged Care Centre has been incredibly rewarding. During this visit, we sang and danced with the residents, sharing meaningful moments, and connecting through the power of music. It was truly heartwarming to see their faces light up with recognition as familiar songs played, and to hold their hands as we danced together. These moments of joy and connection are ones I will always treasure, reminding me of the simple yet profound impact of kindness and shared experiences.

Celebrating Harmony Day: A Celebration of Diversity and Inclusion
Harmony Day, observed annually on March 21st, is a significant event in Australia that celebrates the nation's rich cultural diversity. It also serves as a reminder to promote respect, understanding, and inclusion for all Australians. This day coincides with the United Nations' International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, further emphasising the importance of unity and equality.
On Monday of week 9, Year 2 Blue played an integral role in commemorating Harmony Day within the Junior School. The students led a beautiful liturgy, which featured heartfelt prayers and uplifting music. The celebration concluded with the much-loved hymn Rainbow, which the girls sang with great enthusiasm, bringing the spirit of inclusivity and harmony to life through both their voices and vibrant colours.
Week 10 Liturgy: A Colourful and Uplifting Celebration
Week 10’s liturgy, led by Year 6 Gold, was equally vibrant and inspiring. The students reenacted the events of Palm Sunday, with junior students participating in a procession, waving branches, and singing Hosanna in the Highest. The procession culminated in the Junior School Hall, where the students watched a dramatisation of the first Palm Sunday. Attended by many parents and following weeks of dedicated practice, the students beautifully conveyed the poignancy and drama of Holy Week.
Next week, Year 6 Blue will continue the Holy Week journey with another liturgy, held in the Acacias Garden. Their presentation will feature both dramatization and prayer, further deepening our reflection on this sacred time following the final days of Jesus's arrest leading to his eventual death and Resurrection.
Sacramental Program Year 4
This week, Year 4 students led a special Chapel Mass, celebrated by Fr. Chris Jenkins, Parish Priest, and attended by many parents and friends. The Mass centred on the story of Martha and Mary, reminding us that during Lent, it’s easy to become distracted and lose focus on what truly matters in life. After the Mass, Fr. Chris spent time with the students, many of whom are preparing to receive the sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion next term. He shared insights from the Emmaus story and emphasised its significance in the contemporary understanding of the Mass. Fr. Chris encouraged the students to ask questions, offering clear and thoughtful responses that deepened their understanding. We are truly grateful for the time and wisdom Fr. Chris shares with our students.
Project Compassion
The small Project Compassion boxes that were sent home earlier this term are now due for return. Students were encouraged to collect donations with their families to support the work of Caritas in aiding the poor and marginalised, both locally and abroad.
Classes have been working diligently to raise funds for this important cause, and the appeal will conclude at the end of the term with the much-anticipated celebration of Purple Day, held on the last day of school. We thank everyone for their generous contributions and support of this meaningful initiative.
A Blessing for the Holiday Season
As we move towards the holidays, may the peace, hope and joy of Holy Week and Easter fill your hearts. May this time of reflection and renewal bring you closer to the love and grace of God.
Wishing you a restful and blessed break.
