Week 9, Term 1
Prep
Students will underscore a story with percussion instruments to show their understanding of fast and slow. They will learn to play the instruments used correctly and safely. Students will also learn a First Nations song and listen for the story and instruments used within it.
Grade 1 and 2
Students in Grade 1 will continue to create their own rhythmic arrangement using the rhythms we have been focusing on in class this term. They will also listen to, identify and play low and high sounds as they explore the idea of pitch. Students will experience moving higher and moving lower using steps and jumps. Students in Grade 2 will continue to practise techniques for playing tuned percussion instruments with beaters. They will also further develop their understanding of ostinato (a repeated musical phrase) by playing melodic patterns.
Grad 3 and 4
Students will continue to practise the chords they have learnt on the ukulele so far. They will also use a digital ukulele on their iPad to experiment with the sounds of chords and the order of them to develop an idea for their own song.
Grade 5 and 6
Students will create and share short music compositions with rhythm and melody using their choice of physical instruments or digital composition tools. They will respond to a creative prompts or pieces of music to inspire their arrangements.
*Artwork created in Terms 1, 2 and 3 by all year levels, will be collected and stored at school until our artshow later in the year (excluding a gift from each child for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day).
Prep
Students will be inspired by Anna Blatman’s ‘Field of Flowers’ artwork when recreating their own by painting flowers using circles and lines.
Grade 1
Students will be adding details to their ‘Country House’ painting, including a house, trees and produce in the field.
Grade 2
Students will be adding small details to their Ken Done inspired painting. They will use paint pens to include patterns and bring their schools of fish to life.
Grade 3/4
Students will add underglaze to their ceramic vases as well as their gumnuts. They will continue to wrap yarn around wire as decoration to place inside the vessel.
Grade 5
Students will be creating the ‘weft’ (structure) of their blanket, and begin to weave the warp (horizontal thread) onto the back of their ceramic alpaca.
Grade 6
Students will continue experimenting with ‘tone’ and begin to draw a seashell using grey leads.
Prep
Prep students will continue to explore the signs for the colours of the rainbow. They will participate in a game and colouring task that focuses primarily on the signs for the colours: blue; pink and purple.
Grade 1 and 2
Students have been learning the signs for the various members of their family. This week they will consolidate their earning by playing various matching and concentration games, along with signing a short description about their family.
Grade 3 and 4
Grade 3 and 4 students revise their knowledge of colour signs. They will also be introduced to the signs for various shapes. This knowledge will be used to follow basic instructions in Auslan to create a simple picture.
Grade 5 and 6
Students have been exploring the formation of a sign using the 5 elements: handshape; orientation; location; movement and expression. This week they will be analysing and comparing similar signs that look the similar but have completely different meanings.
Grade 1 & 2:
Students will interact with a range of simple toys to explore how the forces of push an pull can start, stop or change the direction of an object. They will then build a simple toy of their own to demonstrate pushing and pulling.
Grade 3 & 4:
Students will begin to investigate the force of buoyancy through a range of hands on investigations. They will then design and build a simple boat to test how much weight it can hold before sinking.
Grade 5 & 6:
Students have been learning about simple electric circuits. This week, they will be building real circuits with light globes, motors and switches.
