DROP OFF AND PICK UP IN LANTANA
Please be mindful of the road signs on Lantana Road. It is a NO PARKING zone in front of the school, during school start and finish times. To ensure a smooth and safe process, we have a designated pick-up system at the end of the day where a teacher monitors and guides students into cars lined up in the queue. This system works efficiently when there are no parked cars breaching the signage during these times. Thank you for your cooperation.
🌱 NAPLAN
Congratulations to our Grade 3 students on the completion of their NAPLAN assessments!
🌱 LITERACY
This week, our mentor text is Home in the Woods. Students will read it with a partner, building fluency and comprehension. Inspired by the text, they will explore figurative language, imagery, and connections to their own lives and other stories through a range of text response activities.
In Writing, students will follow the writing process to plan, draft, and edit their own narrative stories. They will receive explicit instruction on story structure, including orientation, complication, and resolution. Additionally, they will explore sentence structure, focusing on simple, compound, and complex sentences to enhance their writing skills.
You can support your child at home by reading favourite stories with your child and noticing key elements of the story, such as the problem, how the problem is solved and interesting words used by the author. You might like to ask them about the story they are working on in class, and prompt them to tell you about the orientation (beginning), problem (middle) and resolution (end).
🌱 NUMERACY
This week, students will begin a focus on Shape. We will explore 2D and 3D shapes, classify them, and identify their properties. Students will also learn about parallel, curved, perpendicular, and straight lines. They will describe the features of these shapes using mathematical language and compare their properties. Additionally, students will begin to recognise symmetry and the relationships between different shapes, building a strong foundation for spatial reasoning and problem-solving.
You can support your child by noticing different shapes in the world around them. You can ask them questions such as 'what do we call that shape, how many sides/faces/vertices/edges does that shape have?'
🌱 CBL
This week, we will focus on the final Guiding Question 'How do we connect with the wider community?'
We will then build towards our challenge, which is to 'Make a connection with the Burch Memorial Preschool'. In preparation for the challenge, students, in their CBL Groups, will be creating a game that they will teach to children at Burch Memorial Preschool. We are very excited to see our students make connections with the younger kinder aged children.
This will culminate in a visit to Burch Memorial Preschool in the last week of term (details TBC soon).
You can support your child at home by asking them about the game which they are planning together with their CBL group.
Wellbeing
In Cyber Safety and Respectful Relationships sessions, there will be a focus on responsible communication and identifying scams online. Students will be supported with strategies for communicating responsibly in various online and face to face settings. Our Level 3 and 4 School Wide Positive Behaviour Program focus is transitioning respectfully between activities and spaces.
Cross Country Preparation
As the weather begins to cool down, we will giving opportunity for children to practice running for our upcoming Whole School Cross Country. With this in mind, we ask that you ensure your child comes to school with appropriate footwear.
