Mobile phone reminder
by Mr Greg Breese, Assistant Principal
A reminder that students who bring mobile phones to school must have them switched off and securely stored during school hours. This is a policy that applies to all government schools. It helps to ensure that our learning environment is free of unnecessary distractions and students’ attention is on their lessons.
If required, parents, carers and students can reach each other during the school day through the school reception or sub-school offices. We have had situations where students have contacted their parent to pick them up independently and parents have come to reception without the school being aware. If a student is unwell, which can include feeling overwhelmed by stress or anxiety, it is important that they attend the sick bay so that suitable first aid can be provided rather than contacting their parents.
Where a student does not adhere to this policy, their phone may be confiscated and stored securely in a safe until the end of the day. Repeated incidents will result in the phone being confiscated and we will ask that parents or carers attend the school to collect the device.
We thank parents and carers for supporting this policy which improves learning in the school by helping students to focus on their classes.
