Hello from the Health and Physical Education Domain! Please read on for a couple of reminders and some updates about what students from different year levels have been covering lately across the domain.
As the colder months approach, a reminder to families that we welcome students in the double gym during recess and lunch for casual play. Students are required to bring their library card to exchange for equipment. Courts are operated on a first in, best dressed approach, allowing as many students as safely possible.
Please ensure all jackets have up to date and clear to read name labels. We have 10+ jackets left in the gym in any given week, and having a clear label means that jackets can find their way home.
Our junior students have spent time in recent weeks refreshing their athletics skills in PE lessons. It is a great way to level the field prior to athletics carnival and increase participation in activities that students might otherwise feel uncomfortable participating in.
Students in Year 8 have been completing a Target Games unit this term, participating in games such as Finska, Bocce, Frisbee Golf and other garden games. These types of games allow students to work on their teamwork and positive communication, modifying rules of games to increase participation, and act on intrinsic visual and kinaesthetic feedback.

Students have recently completed a unit on Respectful Relationships, where they discussed signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships, consent, and contributors to rape culture such as gender norms, social media and pornography.
These are important topics for students to gain a deeper understanding of consent, practice critical thinking, and to assist them in building and maintaining respectful relationships. Students engaged with each of the topics and showed maturity in discussing issues prevalent in relationships today!

Across the first semester, the Year 10 Coaching and Leadership class have been preparing to coach Year 7 and 8 classes in their chosen sport. The students have developed their session plan and practiced coaching their peers. We have seen noticeable improvement in their use of their voice and whistle as well as designing a session to help foster improvement in the skills of the younger students.
Most students in this class have been paired with a Year 7 or 8 Interschool sport team to coach which is another valuable leadership experience.

Year 12 PE students recently took part in an engaging and hands-on fitness testing incursion run by METS Performance Consulting. Led by exercise specialist Tyler, the session offered a deep dive into aerobic and anaerobic testing, with plenty of student interaction and discussion throughout. Hai and Rohan volunteered for the VO2 Max test, pushing themselves through a challenging cycling protocol while classmates analysed the data in real time. Matt and Leo stepped up for the explosive Wingate Test, demonstrating peak anaerobic power in a 30-second sprint.
The incursion brought theory to life, with students actively contributing to discussions around energy systems, fatigue, and fitness components. Tyler’s engaging delivery kept everyone involved, and the willingness of students to ask questions and reflect on performance data made for a valuable and memorable learning experience.
