I hope all our families have been enjoying this mild Autumnal weather and are in good health!
Term 2 has had a busy start with a short first week and the student/parent/teacher conferences, the School Open Afternoon, the Athletics Carnival and the School Production has already happened! Lucky this term has 11 weeks so there is enough time to fit in the other school events in addition to running a strong teaching and learning program this term.
Other events upcoming include the Music Camp, the Year 9 City Experience (Geography students), Junior and Senior Concerts, the Year 12 Formal, World Environment Day, Reconciliation Week, the Year 10 and Year 11 mid-year exams, Duke of Edinburgh camp, and the Year 7 Night at the Museum display night.
After conducting school tours for over 200 families across Term 1 and 2, we had our annual School Open Afternoon for prospective families. Numbers were down again this year (possibly as a result of more weekly tours) and we will explore alternative ideas for 2026. The goal of the Open Afternoon is to provide our community and incoming students with the opportunity to learn about the subjects they can study in high school and speak with those teachers. It might be a good opportunity to invite our current families into the school to see what happens in class, too.
One of the biggest highlights of the day includes our wonderful student leaders who volunteer as tour guides. They are great ambassadors for the school, speaking so positively about the school and their experiences – I wish I could have captured all their comments!

What an amazing effort from our students and staff! Mr. Burns was quite the show! Mesmerising, funny, thought-provoking and surreal at times – it was quite the experience for the many families who attended. Thank you to Toby Wilkins, Amy Longden, (Directors), Emily Wilkinson (Producer), Zahra Blake (Assistant Director), and Berni Sweeney (Tech Crew).
Thank you also to Sarah Weyenberg who supported the students from the Student Representative Council (SRC) fundraise at the refreshments bar each night.
And to our talented students – how lucky we are to have so many talented and dedicated young people at Box Hill High School.

Congratulations to our Box Hill HS Sustainability Club for being named as a Finalist in the 2025 ResourceSmart School Awards. Thank-you to our active staff leaders – Rebecca Kertes and Deanna Chesterton and our committed group of student leaders who actively work to promote sustainable practices in the school and make a real difference!
Some of you may have seen that Box Hill High School is getting some positive mentions in the press for being ranked as one of the top 10 non-select entry government schools in Victoria and we are happy to see our wonderful school being promoted!
Each year all schools are required to provide a formal Annual Report to the Community that is uploaded onto the school’s website and presented to School Council, and that includes specific information on student outcomes, attendance and financial activities.
The Annual Report is prepared in two parts:
the performance summary, which details the school’s performance from the past year and trends over time. This is compiled by the department.
the ‘About our school’ commentary, which is prepared by the principal and outlines the achievements of the school in the previous year.
The 2024 Report has been endorsed by School Council and attested to by the school principal and I encourage all our families to take the time to have a read over the Report which can be now found on the school’s website:
https://www.boxhillhs.vic.edu.au/page/514/Reports-to-the-School-Community
On behalf of the school, we wish our three selected students all the best for the big show on 13 September, following months of rehearsals.

Congratulations to Alice H in Year 8 for winning the Table Tennis World Championships for Under 13s in Thailand.
Congratulations to Flynn K in Year 10 for winning gold in the U17 Team Pursuit at the 2025 AusCycling Junior Track National Championships at Anna Meares Velodrome in Brisbane in March.
On Friday 16 May, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated education support (ES) staff who play a vital role in our school. Their efforts behind the scenes ensure that our teachers are supported and our students are set up for success in a safe, well-organised, and welcoming environment. Their contribution allows our teachers to focus on delivering high-quality teaching and learning. We are incredibly grateful for their professionalism, care, and commitment.
