ATHLETICS CARNIVAL -
‘EVENT-FUL’ day at the track
What a H-U-G-E day at Duncan McKinnon Athletics track it was for the WHOLE school a fortnight ago! It was so wonderful to see all of our students enjoying their time together, competing and giving it their best. Our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students all participated in their seven track, field and novelty events over their half day which was a joy to watch! The 100% efforts with their hurdles and sprints down the back straight were amazing! Concurrently, our Year 3-6 students participated in their seven formal track and field events over their full day at the track, with some wonderful personal bests and efforts on display.
What was by far the best part of the event, was the brilliant HOUSE SPIRIT that was shown throughout the day by all students. From the Acknowledgement of Country and Athletics Prayer, our Sports Leaders House chants, the track, field and tabloid event participation over the day, and even during the Staff ‘special guest’ race at lunchtime, it was very clear that students had really embraced the amazing team spirit and team support that our four Houses have.
AND THE WINNER IS….
Congratulations goes to NAGLE, who were the overall winning House at this year’s Whole School Athletic carnival. Nagle showed their strength in winning both the Junior and Senior carnival, with Xavier coming 2nd, closely followed by Marian in 3rd place and Finbar coming 4th.
Year 6 Nagle Sports Leaders; Jude H. and Max A. were very excited to be presented with the perpetual St. Finbar’s Athletics Carnival shield.
Year 6 ANDREW LESNIEWSKI AWARD WINNERS:
Congratulations also goes to our Year 6 students; Jude H. and Elsie M. who were awarded the Andrew Lesniewski Year 6 ‘House Spirit’ Awards. Both students are well deserving of this award in all aspects of positive attitude, effort, kindness and athletic efforts. Well done to both of them. We must also congratulate our Year 6 House Leaders who did a fantastic job in leading their House chants and motivating their House over the past few weeks in the lead-up to the event.
THANK YOU’S…
A massive thank you must go to 40 or so parents that assisted with running our events for our students over the day. From early set-up support, measuring, scoring, timing, instructing, placing-giving, ribbon giving, manual recording and scoring help, this carnival would not have been possible without the amazing support from these parents and the twelve SEDA College basketball students. WE ARE SO LUCKY TO HAVE SUCH SUPPORTIVE PARENTS!
HOCKEY CLINICS for our Year 1-6’s!
Last week our Year 1-6’s PE classes were treated to a hockey clinic to introduce some basic skills and rules of the sport of field hockey. Bayside Hockey Club coaches Lulu Olesen, Morgan Hughes and Hockey School Roadshow convenor; Karen Geissel introduced to our classes a number of hockey’s basic skills of stick grip, stance, dribbling, vision and trapping. All classes finished their lesson playing a modified game, which allowed them practice some of the skills taught.
Hockey is a fantastic team sport to learn and play!
If your child is keen to give it another try, out please head to our local hockey club website to find out more: https://www.baysidehockey.com.au/hookin2hockey

PARENT HELP REQUEST: weekly support for bus supervision & umpires:
To assist with this program, we’d love the support from any parents/adults that are able to assist with either umpiring or support with travel on the bus. Please add your name to the top section of the Parent Support link in the Operoo. Once students are aware of what team they’re in, parents can then add their names into either the SF #1 helper or SF #2 helper doc link in that same Parent support document.
