Deputy Principal's Report

Hello!
As we wrap up a fantastic first term, we want to thank you for your support and partnership in making it such a wonderful start to the school year. It has been a joy to see our students grow, learn, and embrace new experiences. As we head into the holiday break, we wish you a restful and safe time with your loved ones. May this Easter season bring you peace, joy, and the blessings of hope and renewal.
Semester One Report & Victorian Curriculum - Mathematics 2.0
As you may be aware, in 2025 Victorian Schools are mandated to teach and assess Mathematics according to the Victorian Curriculum - Mathematics 2.0 for all students.
Some key changes to the curriculum are:
- There are no longer 3 strands
- Number & Algebra
- Measurement & Geometry
- Statistics & Probability
- There are now 6 strands
- Number
- Algebra
- Measurement
- Space
- Statistics
- Probability (commencing in Year 3)
Reporting to the Curriculum
There has been a significant change in the way reporting will look in accordance with Mathematics VC 2.0 - students will no longer receive a progression point for each strand of Mathematics. In previous years your child’s report will have looked similar to the example below:
As of Semester One 2025, teachers are mandated to give one aggregated progression point for Mathematics which is reflective of the child’s understanding of all 6 strands in Years 3-6 and 5 strands in Year P-2 (not including probability). This will appear on the report in a similar way to the image below:
It is important to note that for Semester One 2025, there will be no indicator of the previous score for Mathematics from the Semester Two, 2024 student report.
Reminder - Food Sharing
Whilst it is a popular and generous initiative to provide Easter Eggs to classmates at this time of the year, we ask that you refrain from providing chocolate in the coming days as this does not align with our anaphylaxis policy. There are many students in our care who have allergies that prevent them from indulging in sweet treats and is safest for all if we use non-food treats where possible.
Harmony Day
Last Friday we came together to celebrate Harmony Day, embracing the diversity that makes our community so special. It was wonderful to see students proudly wearing their cultural attire or shades of orange, symbolising inclusivity and respect. A heartfelt thank you to our parents and families for the time and effort you put into preparing your children for the day—your support truly made the celebration even more meaningful.
Together, we continue to foster a community where everyone belongs!
Thank you to 1L for their beautiful assembly item to set the scene for the day.
ANZAC Day Dawn Service Invitation
We warmly invite all students, families and community members to join us in commemorating ANZAC Day at the Hampton RSL on Friday 25th of April. The Dawn Service is a special opportunity to come together in remembrance and gratitude for the service and sacrifice of our veterans. Attendees are encouraged to start arriving from 5:30am, with the service commencing at approximately 5:50am. As part of the ceremony, two of our wonderful student leaders will have the honour of laying a wreath on behalf of our school community. We hope to see you there as we pay our respects and reflect on the spirit of the ANZACs.
Peter Pan Production
Excitement is building as our Year 5 and 6 students continue to rehearse for our much-anticipated Peter Pan Musical, coming in Term 3! Rehearsals have been in full swing since the end of last year and have continued most days this year, with our talented students working hard to bring this magical story to life. A huge thank you to our Performing Arts teacher, Nonie Kay, for her dedication and creativity in guiding our students through this journey. We can’t wait to share this fantastic production with our school community—stay tuned for more details!
