School Council News

The new 2025 School Council met on Tuesday, 25th March, and warmly welcomed our new parent members, Hayden Djakic and Aaron McAleese, as well as our new DET member, Anna Swan. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all new and returning members for their support of our wonderful school community, through their roles on the School Council and its various sub-committees.
We are also pleased to announce and congratulate our 2025 office bearers, elected as follows:
President: Jason Holandsjo
Vice President: Sarah Glasson
Treasurer: Damian Wood
There are still two vacant community member positions available on the School Council. If you’re interested in getting more involved, we’d love to hear from you! Please contact Mat Montebello to discuss how you can contribute.
This month, we had the privilege of hosting two very special guests, our 2025 School Captains, Emma and Richie. They shared highlights of their impressive leadership initiatives, including leading peer discussions, speaking at recent assemblies, representing our school at the local Hobsons Bay Council, and attending the GRIP Leadership Conference at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Emma also spoke about their exciting plans for community fundraising efforts and their enthusiasm for showcasing our school during upcoming Prep Tours for the 2026 intake. These tours will provide a wonderful opportunity to share the pride of being a Willy Kid, and we have no doubt their leadership will leave a lasting impression on prospective families. The School Council thanks Emma and Ritchie for their time and insights, and looks forward to seeing all they and our Junior School Council members achieve in the year ahead. It is certain that our Willy Kids are in great hands with these two wonderful leaders guiding the way.
The School Council received the following reports: Principal’s Report, including a Buildings & Grounds Report, and Finance Report.
Mat provided a comprehensive update through his Principal’s report, as well as presenting the School’s Annual Report and Annual Implementation Plan. It was great to reflect on the successes of 2024, with highlights in student inclusion and wellbeing programs, community engagement and events, and facility improvements that have significantly enhanced learning and social experiences for students and staff. Council also reviewed encouraging data sets from 2024, and discussed our progress toward strategic goals, which will be tabled at the upcoming Public Reporting Meeting. Stay tuned for details on how you can attend.
The Buildings & Grounds report outlined updates to the maintenance master plan, recommendations for project priorities, and exciting fundraising opportunities tied to our signature event this year—the Seaside Fair.
Looking ahead, the School Council is eager to work with Mat and the broader school community to support the strategic vision for 2025. With several exciting projects and events on the horizon, there’s much to anticipate and achieve together.
The next School Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 30th April.
