News and Notices

 From the Principal

Our focus this term is on Being kind and caring for each other. We have found that our children do not always recognise when someone is being kind to them. We are teaching them that being kind doesn't have to be a big thing; someone saying how are you doing or letting you go through the door first is an act of kindness.

Special Thank You to Four Winds Foundation

Four Winds Foundation provided an $1100 grant to our school in order to buy an up-to-date Active Board for Wāhi Pakari. We are so grateful to receive this funding.

Start of year conferences 2024

This year we are going to run our student conferences on Tuesday 30 January 2024. Each child will have a meeting with their class teacher to talk about their goals for the year and ask any questions they may have. Similarly, parents will have the opportunity to meet the teacher and share any information about their child that they feel the teacher needs to know. Classes will start on Wednesday 31 January 2024.

Samosa Fundraiser

Each family was sent home a notice about selling samosas. They come in three flavours (vegatable, lamb and butter chicken) and 2 sizes (21 pieces and 40 pieces).

They come cooked and can be kept in the fridge for up to 16 days or in the freezer for up to a year.

If each family sells two boxes, the school will make about $500.

Orders and payments must be made by Tuesday 14 November. Pick up will be on Thursday 23 November.

Health Questionnaire

Once every two years The Board of Trustees has to consult with the school community to get feedback on what we are teaching in our health curriculum. We have sent out a survey to every family which should be quick and easy to complete. The last day to return this is Friday 10 November. Thank you for helping us in this way.

Camp 2024

Please remember our very important meeting for parents of this year's Year 3, 4 and 5s on Tuesday 7 November at 5.30pm.

Money Making Market Day

This is coming up on Wednesday 22 November at 3.15pm. The children will make food and things to sell during school. Our Year 5s and 6s run their own stalls and have started planning for this in the classroom. Everyone is expected to be at school on this afternoon.

Please make a note of this date and ask your friends and family to come along and support our children.

Athletics Day

Our Athletics day is scheduled for Wednesday 15 November 2023. We will start at about 9.30 with half hour rotations. The sprints will take place at about 12.15pm. We would love it if you could come and support for a while.

Prizegiving

This year our prizegiving is on Tuesday 12 December at 6pm. All our students are expected to attend in full school uniform. Each class will do an item and there will be some musical items as well. We conclude with farewelling our Year 6s and handing out prizes. We encourage everyone to bring a picnic and have a swim if the weather co-operates. We will sell sausages on this evening as well.

Mufti Day

We had a lovely day on Tuesday with a large number of our children choosing to dress up. The student leaders raised $60.

End of Year Disco

Our FORS team will organise a disco on Friday 8 December. The theme for those who love to dress-up will be Summer holidays/Christmas.

Swimming

It is our intention to start swimming in Week 6. This is assuming that the pool is functioning properly by then.

Out of School Care

We are still having people who are not booking their children into out of school care. Please, please can you make sure that you either phone the office or email office@ridgeview.school.nz to book your child into before or after school care. Please do not assume that we know when your child will be in care. For health and safety reasons, we need to know who is meant to be in care and who is not.

Matchbox Cars

Do you have any small cars that you no longer need? We would love to take them off your hands.

Community Volunteers

I am still looking for opportunities to take small groups of children (3 or 4) into the community on Friday morning for an hour or two. If you know of someone we could help or something we could do, please make contact with the school.

Spare Clothes

Please can you make sure that your child has a spare set of clothes in their bag - it does not have to be school uniform. This is for all children.

Telephone Number

Our new telephone number is 027 593 5963.
