SANKT MARTIN
Saint Martin’s Day is here! In Germany, students would have had a busy few weeks at school and home getting ready for this special day, crafting beautiful paper lanterns. On 11 November, children (and their families) parade through the streets singing “Sankt Martin ritt durch Schnee und Wind” (Saint Martin rides through snow and wind). They might receive sweets, fruits and nuts from some houses in return for their singing.
Processions usually starting at a church and make their way to a public square where a bonfire is lit. The procession is usually fronted by a man, dressed as Saint Martin on horseback.
In German, we have been learning about who Saint Martin is and some famous stories associated with him.
Level 6: Club Tivoli Excursion
On Wednesday, 15 November, Rangeview’s Level 6 students were fortunate to take part in a special end-of-year excursion to German Club Tivoli. They enjoyed a traditional German lunch, including dessert (bee sting or apple strudel – lecker!), listened to German music and German games in a special games room.
