So you want to be a Physiotherapist?
Physiotherapy is a popular career choice and students quite frequently visit us for information on the requirements. There are a limited number of courses available (in the Melbourne district) straight from Year 12 (undergraduate degrees) so, quite often, students need to find alternative pathways (post graduate education) into this area of study.
Our main providers in Victoria include: ACU (Ballarat), Charles Sturt University (Albury-Wodonga), Federation University (Gippsland), La Trobe University (Bundoora), Monash University (Peninsula) and Victoria University (Footscray) offer undergraduate degrees. The University of Melbourne offer Biomedicine/Physiotherapy or Science/Physiotherapy, where you complete an undergraduate degree in Biomedicine or Science and then move forward into Physiotherapy (depending on a range of criteria).
Our students usually apply to Monash, Fed Uni or VU, as they are the most accessible without relocation.
Monash – 2023 ATAR* 97.1 – pre-requisites include at least 30 English (35 EAL), at least 25 in two of Biology, Chemistry, Maths: Mathematical Methods, Maths: Specialist Mathematics or Physics
Fed Uni – 2023 ATAR* 74.8 – pre-requisites include at least 25 English, Units 1 to 4: satisfactory completion in one of Biology, Chemistry, Health and Human Development, Physical Education or Physics
Vic Uni – 2023 ATAR* 95.65 – pre-requisites include at least 25 English (30 EAL), least 25 in one of Biology, Chemistry, Maths: Mathematical Methods, Maths: Specialist Mathematics or Physics
* ATAR results fluctuate and are dependent upon a range of criteria
If a student decides to use a pathway undergraduate degree, most universities ask they have a degree in a related field for example, science, health or sport science. We work through this with students if they discuss physiotherapy as their end goal.
