Middle School
It’s hard to believe we are already at Term 4! With a busy term coming up with many events, finalising curriculum and exams for our older year levels, it is important to for our students to ensure they are getting enough rest, sleep and managing their time effectively.
At the end of Term 3, Year 9 had a five-day City Experience, building the skills of teamwork, empathy, organisation, independent transport and timely communication. Students competed in groups by answering questions about and taking photos of Melbourne’s various landmarks.
Amongst this exploration and guided by their teachers, students:
- ascended the 88-floor Eureka Tower to the stunning Skydeck
- learned first-hand the plight and needs of marginalised and homeless Melbournians
- discovered the Street Art of the laneways
- explored the culture of the Queen Victoria market
- participated in a mock legal trial at the Old Court
- visited the State Library
- toured and paid their respects at the Shrine of Remembrance
- got inspired with a tour of the MCG, the National Sports Museum and an amazing talk by Olympian Tess Lloyd
- went rock climbing above the streets of the CBD.
Year 8 also had their camp at the end of Term 3, heading to Karoonda Park in the Snowy River area. There were various activities such as rafting, horseback riding, abseiling and the flying fox; just to name a few! The students enjoyed getting to know each other further, developing independence away from home to an extended period and challenging themselves with many new activities.
The Year 6 cohort came together to assist with the Five Loaves initiative on Sunday 22 October. As part of assisting in their Service as Action project, the students headed up a team to make sandwiches for the homeless. It was a wonderful turn out, making 500 sandwiches in half an hour. Thank you to all of our students and families who came to assist, along with Mr Damatopoulos and Ms Paris for organising and assisting.
We look forward to many more activities and events across the term as we finish up for 2023!
