TERM 4 TECHNOLOGY

Wow - it’s hard to believe we are nearly halfway through Term 4 already!

Check out all the fun things we’ve been learning about in Technology:

Prep:

This term, the Prep students have been focussing on Food Technology. We have explored healthy and unhealthy foods and have also considered where our food comes from. We have had lots of fun cooking in the kitchen and designing, then building our own worm farm models!

Grades 1 and 2:

We have been having lots of fun using Scratch Jr. to write stories and code sprites (characters) in grades 1 and 2. We have challenged ourselves by using ‘loop’, ‘forever’ and ‘change background’ coding blocks and have practised debugging our algorithms if we have found a bug (problem). We are looking forward to being engineers and following the design process to create something new in the weeks to come!

Grades 3 and 4:

The students in grades 3 and 4 have been using two different types of robots - Ozobots and VEX 123. We have been exploring the input and output parts of these robots as well as writing algorithms to practise our coding skills. The next few weeks will be full of creativity as we complete a design technology unit - we will survey our peers, design and build prototypes and improve our models following feedback from others!

Grades 5 and 6:

This term we have been coding the LEGO Spike and EV3 robots and extending our skills by using the ultrasonic, colour and touch sensors. We have also been building on our knowledge of input and output peripheral devices which send information into or out of the robots as well as considering the internal and external hardware parts. Our final unit for the year will see us work through the Engineering Design Process to create something to link with our classroom Inquiry unit!
