Prep Steiner

The children in FS have been developing their ability to work together. As with most things in life, learning how to be a good friend, how to take turns and how to be patient takes time to learn.
Every day there have been wonderful examples of your children's kindness, generosity and patience with each other. The children have also been practicing their listening skills by taking it in turns to do show and tell. This has a wonderful way for the children to bring something of special interest to share.
Last week we made pretzels in the shape of the first letter of our name and this week we made bread rolls, using herbs from the garden to decorate and flavour the bread. We continued learning about the sounds of letters through stories, there was one about a Cranky Cockatoo which everyone remembered quite vividly and Clara the counting Capybara helped count many things around the school.
We have had some outside creative play with P/1S where children have worked together to make some interesting constructions and have started playing maths games.
Please find the pretzel recipe below in case you would like to make pretzels at home.
Pretzel Dough Recipe
Ingredients
1 teaspoon yeast
120ml warm water
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon salt
200g plain flour (we used spelt)
Egg or milk to glaze (or alternatively you could try a baking soda bath which we didn’t do as too tricky with multiple children)
Method
Preheat oven to 200 degrees
Line 2 trays with paper
In a large bowl dissolve the yeast in the warm water.
Add honey and salt, then add the flour.
Knead the dough and divide into about 5-6 pieces.
Shape into a long rope and form into desired shape.
Place onto a tray and brush with milk and or egg then bake in the oven for 10-15min until golden brown.
