IDAHOBIT
Building a Culture of Respect and Equality
May 17 is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia & Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). On this day LGBTQIA+ people are celebrated globally, and communities stand together against discrimination.
At TPS, we take a whole -school approach to embedding a culture of respect and equality across our entire school, from our classrooms to staffroom, playground, sporting events and community celebrations. This approach leads to positive impacts on students’ learning, their mental health, classroom behaviour and relationships between teachers and students.
The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationship curriculum is just one of the ways that we are building a culture of respect and equality across the school. At TPS, we also promote inclusion through celebrating diversity, learning about and marking a range of special days across the year, encouraging gender inclusive language and providing information on mental health and wellbeing through our school newsletter.
We work in collaboration with programs such as Safe Schools who help schools to foster a safe environment that is supportive and inclusive of LGBTIQA+ students and staff and their families.
This week we would like to highlight some other excellent programs that support the LGBTQIA+ community.
Next Friday, May 22nd we are celebrating "National Walk to School Safely" Day, to remind everyone that until they're 10, children must always hold an adults hand when crossing the road. This is part of National Road Safety Week.
