Year 9 Ceramic Pinch Pot Animals

Year 9 Ceramic Pinch Pot Animals
In this term of ceramics, our first project was a pinch pot animal. I chose to do a sausage dog. We started with the design process where we were instructed to find inspiration pictures. Then, we did multiple thumbnail sketches. After that, I began creating my piece, carefully hollowing out the clay using the pinch pot technique, shaping the dog’s rounded body.
The process then shifts into refining and shaping: the legs, ears and tail are created, indentations and texture are incorporated to add detail to the piece.
The pinch pot then got put in the kiln. Next, when it was dry, we began glazing the animals. It took three coats to get the colour right on each part of the dog. Finally, it got fired, and then out came the final product.

Hello I am Will the creator of the spider, we used the technique of pinch potting to create different animal sculptures, the main challenges I faced was attaching the legs and time constraints, because the legs needed to be very well attached to the main body and not letting them snap, also I deliberately didn’t do the coats of the underglazes (the colour) perfectly because I realized that’s not how a real spider would be.
