AngliSchools Vision for Learning

Courageous

As part of the AngliSchools Vision for Learning, this week we highlight the learner attribute Courageous.

In the Junior School, we define Courageous as: Being brave enough to have a go, try something new and take a risk, even when it feels hard. It’s about speaking up, persisting, and showing resilience when things are challenging.

Courage in learning is not about always getting things right, but about being willing to try, to learn from mistakes, and to keep going. When we consistently model courage as learners and thinkers, we help students develop this important aspect of their character.

Recently, the Junior School engaged in Professional Learning around the AngliSchools Learner Attributes and identified key practices that support students to be courageous.

These include:

  • encouraging students to persist with challenge,
  • supporting students to take risks in their learning,
  • building resilience through initiatives such as Go Time and the Resilience Project,
  • providing opportunities for students to develop independence and ownership, and
  • encouraging students to do their best and respond positively to feedback.

In action, courageous learners:

  • proactively pursue challenges,
  • take responsibility for their actions and decisions, and
  • persevere and demonstrate resilience when learning is difficult.

Questions to explore at home:

  • What does being courageous look like in our family?
  • How do we respond when things feel difficult or uncomfortable?
  • When did you last try something new or take a risk?
  • How do we encourage one another to keep going when things are hard?

By nurturing courage, we support students to develop the confidence and resilience needed to grow, take risks and engage fully in their learning journey.

AI Circle of Inquiry - AISNSW

We recently engaged with Miriam Scott, an AI Consultant from AISNSW, to support the College in strengthening its approach to artificial intelligence in teaching and learning.

Across a two-day consultancy program, Miriam and her team worked with key staff groups including leadership, Heads of Department, and ICT teams to build staff capability and begin shaping a clear, strategic approach to AI use, including professional practice and emerging policy directions.

A key highlight of the visit was the Student AI Circle of Inquiry, where Year 12 student leaders participated in a structured forum to share their authentic experiences, perspectives, and considerations around AI. This valuable student voice is helping to inform the College’s ongoing decision-making as we continue to explore responsible and purposeful use of AI in education.
