National Reconciliation Week #NRW2026

National Reconciliation Week #NRW2026 is held annually from 27 May to 3 June as a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, the truth about First Nations history, cultures and achievements, and to explore the responsibilities of all Australians to reconcile with their First Nations past.

The dates commemorate two significant milestones:

  • the successful 1967 referendum and;
  • the High Court Mabo decision.

National Reconciliation Week begins the day after another very significant date: National Sorry Day. On National Sorry Day, we remember and acknowledge the First Nations children who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we now know as ‘The Stolen Generations’. Reconciliation begins with telling the truth and understanding and addressing historical injustices experienced by First Nations people in Australia.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

All In makes clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change.

The theme also reminds us that reconciliation and advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights isn’t a passive activity, and it is not solely the responsibility of First Nations people, who have carried the weight of championing, explaining and acting for far too long.

Reconciliation will not happen by itself, and it will not happen without all of us.

On Friday 29th May, Lakes Entrance Secondary College will be participating in Wear it Yellow Day, where students are invited to wear yellow clothes for a gold coin donation.

Wear it Yellow is a meaningful National Reconciliation Week activity that brings our learning community together to raise awareness, acknowledge the past, start important conversations about reconciliation, contribute to closing the gap and look forward to a better future.

Every dollar our education organisation raises supports education, language and wellbeing programs for First Nations children and families on Country in the Northern Territory.

Student Vaccinations – Alternative Sessions

Families are advised that for students who were unable to receive their scheduled vaccinations at the college, alternative opportunities are available through East Gippsland Shire Council.

Vaccination sessions will be held monthly at the Mechanics Hall, commencing Thursday 21st May.

These sessions provide another chance for students to stay up to date with their immunisations in a convenient local setting.

Please refer to the East Gippsland Shire Council brochure below for further details, including additional session dates and booking information.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the college.
