Curriculum Day

Don't forget that Friday 22 May is a Pupil Free Day. TheirCare is running a program for the day so please book if needed.

This curriculum day launches our focus on Numeracy which is one of our goals from our School Strategic Plan.  We will be working with Brendan Lee, a secondary and primary school educator who facilitates professional learning at the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership. Brendan visited our classrooms in Term 1 and spent the rest of the day discussing our next steps. Our Learning Specialists have also been attending mathematics professional development, alongside the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model throughout the year, so they are equipped to support our teachers in this new learning.

State Budget win for Wales Street

After many years of tireless work from staff and school councillors over the last 5 years, we have finally been given a substantial amount of money , 21.3 million to improve the facilities at Wales Street. We are all very excited. Myself, along with Luisa & Louise have already had our first meeting with the VSBA (Victorian Schools Building Authority). Included in the build is a gym, a library space and modular classrooms. According to the timeline, architects will be appointed in Term 3 this year, builders are appointed in Term 3 2027, with works commencing in September 2027, with completion in 2029.

A huge shout out to members of our school community who have worked tirelessly to help make this all happen; Jenny Deeble, Kellie Marks, Davor Stanic, Jen Rutherford and Luisa Kalenjuk.

Mother’s and Special Person’s Day

Last Sunday was Mother’s Day. I hope that all our WSPS Mums, Grandmothers, Aunties and female figures, had a lovely day that was filled with love and connectedness, and a little bit of spoiling!

A huge thank you to our Wales Street Social team who ran our Mothers and Special friends day stall and attended craft sessions and meetings to ensure our kids had amazing gifts to choose from. It was a huge success!

WOW! Term 2 

This year WSPS will be participating in the Darebin Council WOW! initiative. We are encouraging our students to either walk or wheel (bike or scooter) to school every Friday. Each Friday the grades will tally up the number of students who walk or wheel to school.

At the end of the term the grade that has the highest percentage of students who Walk Or Wheel to school will receive a pizza lunch early in Term 3 and win the golden trophy! 

Please remember if your child wheels to school they must wear a helmet. 

Enrolments

Enrolment tours for Foundation for 2027 are well and truly in full swing. A reminder to get your enrolment forms in for siblings and to let your friends and family members know to consider our great school if they have a Foundation student looking for a school in 2027. 

Grade 4 Camp

On Monday morning, an extremely excited group of Year 4 students boarded the bus for Camp Arrabri in Warbuton. They all had an amazing time and really enjoyed the activities and adventure. Camps are one of those special extra-curricular activities that allow students rich experiences that just are not possible within the normal school environment. 

Thanks to the staff for the many hours of work that has gone into this camp to allow this to happen and to our families that have allowed us to plan and prepare a fantastic three days for our students.

Grade 3C Celebration Morning Tea

Last week, I had the pleasure of inviting Grade 3C to a special morning tea in recognition of being the class with the most helpers at our School Fair. The students were incredibly excited to enjoy morning tea in the staffroom, making the experience even more special for them.

It was a true pleasure to host such wonderful students. Their manners, gratitude and care for one another were outstanding and reflected the strong sense of community we value at Wales Street Primary School.

A special thank you to Emily, Elise and Shiromi for their support with the food preparation and organisation. Your assistance helped make this celebration such a positive and memorable experience for our students.
