PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Its been fantastic to see the progression in our Junior students' knowledge and skills associated with the 2 handed strike. All students have grown in confidence (and strength) with some of the t-balls being hit super far. Alongside striking, their fielding abilities have been developed. Prep - Grade 2 students know how to successfully retrieve the ball and have worked really hard when returning the ball to the tee.
Our Middle and Senior students have completed their Tennis unit with all grades being able to implement their skills into proper matches. Students have developed their abilities to participate in rallies and umpire their own games.
Our Swimming Program is the allotment for P.E for 2 weeks with regular classes returning after the program is complete.
LOTE - AUSLAN
We have been focusing on translating English sentences to Auslan sentences through reading a range of story books.
Our Middle and Senior students have created their own story line and are in the process of displaying these in comics or picture story books. In addition to creating their pictures and illustrations, students have also been learning to sign the words throughout the story.
Our Juniors have collaborated their idea's to create one story per grade. Each student has their own page to decorate and have been learning how to sign the sentences to be able to tell the story. We've shown great creativity and we are looking forward to seeing the finishing product!
STEAM: Science, Technology & The Arts
It is the exciting halfway point in the term where our middle and senior students are working on their extended projects! These projects are always great for supporting engagement, getting hands-on, real world learning experiences and practicing working with peers. Our 3-6s are working on 'Victoria's Big Build' Project. Each class will be making a city, and each group will contribute one design to the city. We have seen some fantastic ideas already from restaurants to stadiums. The 3/4s must use a force (like magnets or gravity) and the 5/6s must use a circuit (such as an LED bulb, spinning motor or buzzer). Students are already so invested in their projects which is amazing to see.
Our junior students are learning about movement, pushes and pulls. The preps are exploring how things move and what words they can use to describe them. We went for a nature walk to observe animals and objects moving and created annotated drawings to record what we saw. The 1/2s are learning about Rube Goldberg machines where objects push and pull each other to create movement. They explored a dog treat feeder machine which used a ball rolling down a ramp onto dominoes, which pushed a car which then pushed the treat to the dog. Students identified which objects pushed and which pulled.
STEAM Festival Crew
We have had our first meeting for each group in the STEAM Festival Crew and we have made a great start. Our exhibition curators are designing the layout, display crew are organising student artworks from throughout the year to be ready for display and our marketing crew have started creating the school posters and social media flyers.
