Music at MECS
Last Thursday evening the MECS Primary Music Recital brought the Theatrette to life. Over the year, many of our students attend weekly music lessons on their preferred instrument, taught by top quality teachers as part of our Instrumental Music Program (coordinated by Tristan Forrest). These events are widely anticipated and enjoyed by our school community. This year’s recital was no different.
The evening kicked off with coffee, tea and yummy slices for supper, which instantly created a warm, fun and relaxed vibe. The Senior Choir opened the recital with their uplifting rendition of the song, Keep On! Then came a range of students playing pieces on piano, guitar, ukulele, drums, violin, and voice. The evening concluded with an inspiring song by guest performers, The Weirdos, MECS’ resident Year 8 band.
Our Primary students did themselves and their parents proud with their courage to stand up and perform in front of a large audience. Highlights of the evening were the Year 5/6 'Boy Band' (as I call them) playing the 80’s classic, 'Livin’ on a Prayer' (we were all clapping and singing along with gusto!) and our guests, The 'Weirdos' who came especially to play for the younger students, reflecting the wonderful supportive community that is MECS.
All in all, it was a fabulous night of music showcasing the talent and gifts of our students. Thanks go to our wonderful instrumental teaching team: Antonia Mitchell, Tim Greenwood, James McCormack, Carolyn Jackson and Penny Mentiplay, as well as all the parents who support their children by providing them the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. We certainly look forward to hearing more wonderful music next year.
