Remembrance Day 2024
At the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day on the eleventh month, we will remember them.
We were proud to represent MECS within the Mount Evelyn community at the Remembrance Day service at the War memorial with Mount Evelyn RSL. It felt important to honour and remember the sacrifices made by those who fought and died for our freedom in wars and conflicts around the world.
Some of our Year 4 students read aloud the poem 'I went to see the soldiers' by Kenny Martin and our Year 6 student leaders placed a wreath at the cenotaph with other community groups.
Around 150 members of the local community watched on as a piper solemnly played, a bugler played The Last Post, we had a minute of silence, the combined schools choir sang the National Anthem, and we listened to the list of the Mount Evelyn fallen.
We found the service respectful, interesting, and serious and we recommend that all Australians attend services like these as it is a wonderful way to pay respects to our past and present soldiers.
Lest We Forget.
