Victorian Institute of Sport

A number of Year 5 students had the opportunity to visit the Victorian Institute of Sport recently. The VIS is justifiably proud of its many Olympic, Paralympic and World Champions who have not only succeeded in sport but also in life and, in so doing, have acted as positive role models for others.

Students participated in a variety of activities and were lucky to meet Australian Diamonds netballer Jo Weston and Australian table tennis player Melissa Tapper (4X Paralympian, 3x Olympian).

“We learnt at the V.I.S about how sport can build resilience. Most athletes must learn to balance studies and sport. I took away from this excursion that winning is not the most important thing in competition. If you lose the sun will rise tomorrow. I remembered that quote after watching a Jemima Montag interview.” Harley Y5

“My day at the V.I.S was an extremely amazing experience. I learnt that its not all about winning in sport. My favourite part was meeting a couple of Olympians and seeing all the equipment they use. Even though it was extremely hot, I still had a great time.” Leni Y5

“I liked going to the V.I.S because we got to meet Olympians and see where they train and work out. After that we visited the Peter Norman statue and learnt about him. We also went to MSAC and looked at the facilities and swimmers.” Mieke Y5

“We saw the training pools and gyms and learnt about different types of training for the athletes. We also saw Olympians and Paralympians. We learnt about positive self-talk and support networks.” Julian Y5

Swimming Trials 2025

Students who are in Year 3 – 6 in 2025 will have the opportunity to participate in the CSPS swimming trials on February 5.

This is an opt in event.

Only students who can swim 50m in any stroke are encouraged to attend. Please use the summer months to decide whether this event is appropriate for your child.

2XU Wellness Run

Congratulations to all CSPS participants and supporters of our CSPS team on another great day on the streets of St.Kilda.

“It was crowded at the start. We did a warm up first and then we did a countdown from 10. In the first 500m I was in the first fast group and then they overtook me. I kept running, my brother and Dad cheered me on. When I was finished, I was proud of myself. I did it in 21:01.” Yuval Y4

“I was feeling nervous at the start but I knew I could do it because I did it last year. I wanted to do the 5km in under 28 minutes. I did it in 27:33. It was very exciting because I had people cheering me on. My Dad joined me for a bit. I was happy with my time and proud of myself.” Charlotte Y4

“A great experience with everyone from CSPS for even a better cause. Planning on doing the 21km event next year.” Mr Higgins

“When I started running I started to sweat. I ran some parts and walked some parts. I saw Mrs O running. I ran with my Dad. I am proud of myself!” Sunday Y4

“I woke up early in the morning. Me and my dad drove to the wellness run. When we started I was a bit nervous but then when we got in the middle of the run I got less nervous. When we crossed the finish line I was proud of myself. Then I saw Mr Wink and we had a chat. I ran with my Dad.” Oliver Y2

“The atmosphere was electric!” Mr O’Grady

Golf

Students from Year 3-6 have been participating in a Sporting Schools Golf program in Term 4. Many of the students have enjoyed the opportunity to try a new sport. If any parents would like further information regarding local coaches, please let me know.
