Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden with 3/4M

This week marks week four with our 3/4 M students.  How quickly time goes as we only have three more weeks with them to garden and cook.  Today we enjoyed the beautiful spring sunshine and worked hard in the garden to pull out lots of the vegetables that have gone to seed, including many of the silverbeet plants that have been flourishing and providing us with so much green goodness.  Last week we cooked a very tasty pumpkin and silverbeet pasta bake for lunch. In addition to having a beetroot dip, watermelon salad and ANZAC biscuits.  Today we made a vegetable stir fry with rice for lunch and used up all the vegetables we had in the fridge.  What a great way to stop wasted food!  We also made a bean salsa, broccoli and mushroom salad and zucchini bread.  So yummy!!

The students love their time in the kitchen and appreciate the time the parent volunteers give us.  We can’t thank them enough for their efforts.  These wonderful people have been Greg (Ella’s Dad), Crystal (Ryan Le’s Mum), Sharu (Ayden’s Mum), Tiffany (Hamish’s Mum), Kathy (Hamish’s Grandma) and Maria (James’ Mum).  We love having them there and look forward to them supporting the children each week.  If you are free to help the students, please message me via Seesaw.

Arigatou!

Student Reflections:

Today, I had a great time working in the garden and preparing the main meal. We made a delicious broccoli stir-fry, and I’m really excited to see how it turns out! A big thank you to everyone who helped out – your support and teamwork made this experience even more special. I hope it’s as tasty as it was fun to create! By Hamish

Today for cooking, I made zucchini bread. The best part about making zucchini bread is the mixing. I enjoyed this part the best because I enjoyed seeing the look of the bread change. Another part of cooking I enjoyed was measuring how much baking paper I needed to chop off. I also enjoyed this part because it was a bit challenging at first but eventually got easier. I’m sure everything will turn out good and I will have a delicious meal. By Ryan Le

Dear Mrs. Siegert, thank you so much to you and everyone who helped organise the wonderful meal today. I am really excited to see how it turns out. I had a great time making bread! My favourite part was mixing the eggs and cinnamon together, then pouring the mixture into the large metal tray. I’m really looking forward to trying the main meal—stir-fried rice with lots of vegetables! Thank you again for everything. Ayden
