Ready, set, go! Kinder Athletics Afternoon

Jumping sacks, eggs on well-balanced spoons and speedy feet raced across the Nagle Centre with great enthusiasm at today's Kinder Athletics Afternoon. Well done to all our Kinder Platypuses and Wallabies who participated in their first athletics carnival.

A big thank you to all the parents, grandparents and friends who attended to cheer on and support the children on their special day. The highlight for many was the teddy bear race, where students and their cuddly companions dashed to the finish line!

Sweet moments in the field

Our Kinders had an amazing time on their excursion to Littlewood Berry Farm last week, even with a bit of rain! They enjoyed a bus ride, picked their own fresh, juicy strawberries (and tasted a few along the way) and savoured delicious ice cream. The trip was not just about strawberries – the students saw how produce is grown, met local farmers and even learned about sheep shearing. They were thrilled to bring some wool back to school, which they've used in creative projects. What a memorable day filled with learning and fun!

Remembrance poppies

On Monday 11 November, the College paused to honour and recognise the service and sacrifice of our brave veterans and serving personnel. As part of our Remembrance Day commemorations, students in Year 1 spent the morning creating beautiful red poppies using leftover fabric scraps. Each poppy represents remembrance and gratitude for those who served and sacrificed for our country. This tradition began in the early 1900s, after World War I, and continues today at SMC, with students wearing their poppies with pride.

We will remember them.

Pictured below: The Year 2 Wombats were also inspired by the red poppy, creating these beautifully commemorative artworks now proudly displayed in the classroom.

Food, family and fun

Year 2 concluded their HaSS unit on Family Traditions last week with a feast fit for royalty. Students and their families were invited to bring along a special dish to share with the class. Along with trying different cuisines, the afternoon was a lovely opportunity to exchange family stories, recipes and food traditions. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this delightful event.

Year 10 Pillars rotation | Financial Literacy

Donovan Castelyn from the UTAS Tax Clinic delivered a session to Year 10 students on financial literacy. The topics covered included what makes a good housemate, how to read a pay slip, and budgeting for when they move out of home. With these valuable insights, our students are all set for adult life!
